Personally, I just like redundant hardware. Especially with proprietary devices, and especially with disc drives. If there's one thing you can count on with a disc drive, it's that it will eventually fail. I like that if my GCN dies I can play GCN games on my Wii. And if my Wii dies, and I can play Wii games on my U (and GCN games, if I wanna softmod). If my Wii U dies, I can play games on my... Nope, I'm fucked.

Like I said earlier though, it hardly matters since Wii U game saves are locked to your console. If my Wii U ever dies, I could just as well switch to another Wii U console (or emulation, if it exists at that time) since I'd lose all my saves either way. And if the Switch had backwards compatibility with U games, I probably would never use it being that I couldn't have any of my saves.

I'm not complaining though. It's just something that Nintendo has gotten us all use to at this point.

Here's another thing I just thought off...

What will the game cases look like? Will they be DVD or BD size? Or will they be DS/3DS size?

edit: And another thing... Can you buy additional docks? So let's say I have a dock in my livingroom and another in my bedroom. I could be gaming, switch to portable, then dock in another room and play on the TV again. I would definitely buy multiple docks, if they're available.

Nah man. It's all love. Just throwing some jabs at our Steam advocate. Somebody will eventually convert and join you. :D

With the exception of the weird stuff Nintendo does, it's all going the same direction anyway... mid cycle hardware upgrades on PS4/Xbone, installing games on hard drives, similar hardware, lots of cross platform titles, pre-planned DLC, etc. The singularity is upon us and pretty soon VR will be the only form of gaming. 8)

It doesn't matter what Nintendo pukes out. I collect the crap and will eventually have it. I'm just excited about the prospect of some new-to-Nintendo developers tossing up something original or even some definitive versions of last gen classics. Makes my eventual decision to offload some old Playstation and Xbox libraries much easier and I get the bonus perk of playing it in bed or on a long trip.

I mean, the games are cards, so I'd imagine they'll be like 3DS or Vita cases, but different enough that people can easily tell the difference.

On the docks thing, I'd imagine that depends on how much tech is actually contained in the dock, or if the entire system's hardware is present in the tablet. Being able to buy a fancy new dock for a different room would be pretty neat, even if that kind of strikes at the whole "portability" concept.

Anyone concerned about storage with this thing? Clearly no hard drive.

I will love this system and don't care, but tons of people get mad about this topic.

Like how tablets don't have hard drives.

People put up a stink that the wii U didn't have one. I am not saying it should or anything, but it is weird that tons of people were upset about it but this gets a free ticket. Just an observation.

I think you interpreted my statement wrong. Tablets have a hard drive. It's not a huge one, but it's there. No reason this one wouldn't have a hard drive either. It'd be solid state, but the only reason desktop SSDs have a recognizable form factor is backwards compatibility with existing mounting points.

I'm curious to know how big the cartridges are. Aren't 256GB cards kind of cheap to make now? We can also maybe factor in that we'll probably be able to save games to a cart once again, though I know that generally takes up like no space.

But... digital stuff definitely throws a wrench into this, so yeah I wonder what the space options are going to be.

Also seriously hope I can migrate all my U VC purchases over.

I would guess they'll used 64 GB or 128 GB cards for most games, but yeah, 256 GB cards are cheap these days (relatively speaking).

As for storage, my guess would be a micro SD card like most smartphones and the New 3DS uses. You can get a 128 GB card for $40 or less and a 256 GB card for less than $200. I also suspect that the dock will have some kind of a USB port (either standard or micro) to allow for an external hard drive when docked and allow games to transferred to and from the internal memory.
