Check out Aria (my favorite) f and Lucky Star. :D If you like Neptunia you miiight like the cuteness in those. Aria is very laid back. Lucky Star is comedy. Sometimes very dry comedy.

Nana is the best chick drama ever. Eve no Jikan is a great short series exploring the laws of robotics.

Crest/Banner of the Stars is a great sci-fi series. Don't need to say any more about it.

Haibane Renmei. Watch it.

Perfect Blue, Millennium Actress, Tokyo Godfathers, Paranoia Agent, Paprika. Watch them. Satoshi Kon was a masterful director.

Mushi-shi is a great series when you're in more of a thinking mood.

The Tatami Galaxy is also a favorite.

Just a few recommendations that you may want to look into, sir. Or ignore completely. Whatever works. :D

Also a solid series. Wish the anime covered more of the manga. And as with a majority of Satoshi Kon works, Berserk contains the music of Susumu Hirasawa. One of my all time favorites. :D

I only started watching anime at 26 (!!!) and so far I've really only explored the "popular" stuff: Cowboy Bebop, Evangelion, Magic Knight Rayearth, Chobits, Ranma ½. I think I'd like to purchase the Slayers and Elfen Lied collections sometime in the near future.

Skip Elfen Lied, it's terribad.

I'm rewatching Rahxephon myself lately, haven't seen it in like 8 years. I'd say it's stood the test of time really well and I'm loving it again.

I second this. Took me some years but I own the whole ADV series. The music is good the story takes some getting used to but the characters are enjoyable.

I remember when this came out some years ago, they tried to make it the new evangelion. But far from it. Sure its got the angsty pilot, giant robots, and secret societies. But what anime doesn't! Watch it for being a great sci-fi anime.

Yeah, the Eva comparisons are undeniable and I've been talking about it with a friend I know that loves Eva to death making some comparisons or whatnot, but it's all fun and games. By the end of the day Rahxephon is still actually quite different with the obvious comparisons aside, it has a bigger story or emphasis on that I'd say, whereas Eva focuses more on the main characters and their psychological struggles or whatever... Eva is far more angsty to me and not happy, but with how Rahxephon wraps up it's almost a very romantic weird journey riddled with dualism. A lot more mysteriousness to it that I think it does well too. I'm up to episode 19, that episode... it's one I never forgot and never will, it was still a breathtaking episode yet again.

My friend and I summed it up by agreeing that Rahxephon is more of a "WHAT" show, and Eva's a "WHY", if that makes any sense at all... lol.

I still appreciate Eva more now that I rewatched it last year though in Japanese and enjoyed it actually, but yeah. Not to just make that cliche' comparison, but yeah I think Rahxephon is just an easier watch. I still might favor Rahxephon more in the end, haha. It's safe to say Rahxephon is probably the best Eva-like show out there. I know of some others, like Argento Soma which was okay but not great, and Fafner I hear hit or miss things about... but yeah.

I find the Rahxephon cast to be pretty likeable unlike Eva's too. Ayato is good stuff and tears up Shinji, lol. And characters like Quon crack me up. She reminds me a lot of one special girl in Infinite Ryvius. I would say Infinite Ryvius is probably my favorite show that's kind of like these with psychological drama and angst. I definitely highly recommend it for anyone who hasn't seen it. It's a sci-fi take on the Lord of the Flies story, so you see a bunch of teens try to govern themselves on a derelict spaceship and obviously their society crumbles. The show has the craziest claustrophobic atmosphere I've ever seen in a show with the whole thing basically taking place on this one dark ship, it's hard to describe. But yeah easily one of my top favorites.

And I'm loving that Rahxephon is giving me a lot of Xenogears vibes this time around, maybe even more than Eva did. Haha...

Thanks for the recs guys. I'll probably buy a couple of complete series after Christmas if I get some dough. Might pick up Full Metal Panic too, as I like the art style and always seem to see it at Best Buy.

Which I had more free time to explore anime more. Whenever I have a free moment I seem to play video games instead. 8)

I can give Full Metal Panic a thumbs up, just don't take it too seriously. It's a weird mix of romance, drama, comedy, mecha, action... etc lol (but way better than a lot of new stuff that tries to do this mix). There's also the Fumoffu season which was straight up comedy. The Second Raid is serious business and was my favorite entry in the series.

FMP
Fumoffu
TSR

You could probably watch it in that order.
