Re: The Wrestling Thread
Like I already said in my above post, that was an awesome promo. But if it was real, and not scripted, then CM Punk is doing nothing more than whining when he has no reason to. He talked like he was pushed down and never got anything. WHAT?! He's been in the main-event scene for who knows how long, and he's been a World Champion. But even more to the point, HE HAS HIS OWN FREAKING FACTION!

Re: The Wrestling Thread
He's had two factions that nobody has cared about.. After the hair-chopping straight-edge thing, both Gallows and the girl were released from WWE. The latest faction was nothing more than Punk leading a group of decent talent that was wasted in being nothing more than subservient lapdogs. Punk is great on his own, as well as the other 3 guys in that group.BurningDoom wrote:Like I already said in my above post, that was an awesome promo. The WWE has underused Punk because he has the ability and the draw to main event any and all PPVs, but he's only been relegated to upper mid-card matches at best. Yeah, he was a World Champ, but when you got guys like Orton and Cena main eventing every damn PPV and Raw, it's a shame because Punk is easily more entertaining on the mic and in the ring...

Re: The Wrestling Thread
I think the Straight Edge faction helped him get over as a heel, but then went nowhere. To be honest though, it was mostly HIM getting himself over with the idea. Luke and Serena had little to do with it.Rurouni_Fencer wrote:He's had two factions that nobody has cared about.. I think Nexus was great when it first started with Wade as the leader. It's like once the Nexus stopped being relevant, it got handed over to Punk. Here you go buddy. Here's Wade Barrett's sloppy seconds LOL
Orton and Cena are as over as they are largely because of MASSIVE pushes for a LONG time. A lot of top guys are just there because for whatever reason the WWE machine decided to get behind them, which isn't to say that Orton has no talent. There have been better guys on the roster though than him though. A lot of guys have said that Orton has been pushed so hard because the WWE likes his look. Punk gets criticized a lot for being too small and skinny, like Christian. It's a known fact that Vince likes the bigger guys, but Punk and Christian have no interest in bulking up it seems.
I do think Punk is a top guy. I would have said at one point that he should be the number 2 heel on Raw after Miz, but right now he's so good he should be number 1. I'd put both R Truth and Miz in the number 2 spot. They are both great, but Miz is going to be needing some sort of change soon to keep his character relevant. This Riley feud isn't doing much for him and he didn't even get mic time this week
I wish Jericho would come back and become Smackdown's top heel

Better than Cena, no doubt. But better than Orton, no way. Orton is without a doubt the best active wrestler on the WWE roster.Rurouni_Fencer wrote:He's had two factions that nobody has cared about.. This is very reminiscent of Bret Hart. Bret Hart was a great wrestler, but as soon as he got whiney his career went down the crapper fast. I just hope that history doesn't repeat itself with CM Punk.

Re: The Wrestling Thread
Interesting point, Doom.. But I disagree about Orton being the best wrestler. No doubt, he's in the top 5, as he's got the talent, but I don't think he's as entertaining as Kofi, Punk, or even Undertaker.. I will, however, heartily agree that Jericho needs to return and show the WWE how a heel is supposed to act..
Speaking of Bret Hart, WWE is releasing a DVD about the Montreal Screwjob.
Maybe it's just speculation, but I wonder if this whole angle of Punk leaving with the title has anything to do with the DVD's release??

Re: The Wrestling Thread
Colt Cabana recently spoke with the Miami Herald about CM Punk leaving WWE, here are some comments from Cabana…
"From being laughed at by the trainers in Ohio Valley Wrestling to Paul [Heyman] finally bringing him up and everybody treating him like dirt, telling him he has an attitude problem and calling him the ‘King of the Indies,'. Just looking down on him, he just felt shunned his whole time there. It was a complete struggle."
"The power of him not really caring because he was ready to leave — I always said the power of not giving a s--- is so important. He is really at the point where he just wants to get out of there. It's too frustrating for him. If he said anything that made anybody mad, what are they going to do to him? Not re-sign him? He doesn't want to be there.
"So I think that idea is so powerful. He is so strong in his beliefs with the straight edge lifestyle. By being how strong headed that he is, he was able to have the power to go out on television and say what probably every other wrestler has wanted to say. He made unbelievable television. He made unbelievable history in wrestling.
"He almost has the ability to change professional wrestling as we know it. It has been so stagnant and vanilla. It kind of shook up the wrestling world because of his real life frustrations."

Re: The Wrestling Thread
Finally got around to watching the promo, and it was pretty hilarious. Does each wrestler have their own writer, or is there a staff of writers that handles all wrestlers?
Either way, it was entertaining as hell, but obviously was set up. Anytime a wrestler insults the fans, it is obvious he's taking on the bad guy role. But if Punk wrote that material himself, he should be signed on as a writer.

Punk did an interview with Colt Cabana where he said that he usually doesn't like it when writers tell him what to say. There are only a select few that he's willing to listen to. For the most part though, Punk just gets out in front of a crowd and improvises. The writers will basically tell him what topics they want him to cover and he puts it all into his own words. Punk said that on one knows how Punk communicates except Punk himself so he won't use a script.Luke wrote:Finally got around to watching the promo, and it was pretty hilarious. Orton's definitely not the best, but he is top tier. Punk is better though. Kofi's not even in Orton's league at this point and Undertaker doesn't count since the guy has one match a year. He's practically retired. Jericho is better than all of them though. Jericho can do anything. He can wrestle any style, have a good match with anyone, play any character, deliver fantastic promos, draw as much heel heat as Vickie Guerrero and he very, very rarely ever gets injured. He's the fucking man in my opinion and he's a veteran. It's a shame he's pursuing other things as the WWE desperately needs a guy like him right now. He could so easily fill the void left by EdgeRurouni_Fencer wrote:Interesting point, Doom.. But I disagree about Orton being the best wrestler. Ah, the Chicago-Made Cookie-Monster.
Part work (see, suplex-implodes-ring), part shoot, all amazing.
At least Punk has leverage drumming up this much attention while on an expiring contract. It's not like he's going to get fired via FedEx. Also, don't bring Jericho into the equation. He's just... right now he is THE top. No one currently employed approaches his level. When even guys like Orton will publicly admit how great Jericho is and you can take down someone 6"/30 kilos heavier than you, no one alive compares. No one.

My scheduling skills have died of dysentery; I hope to visit at least on a monthly basis.
Still, don't forget to tip your waitress.

I'd put Jericho above Orton without a doubt, as well. But Jericho isn't an active wrestler.Gamerforlife wrote:Punk did an interview with Colt Cabana where he said that he usually doesn't like it when writers tell him what to say. And I still feel Orton is a better wrestler than Punk. He's great in the ring: He's quick, he can last through a long match, he can sell moves well, he can take damage when needed, and coolest of all is that he can pull off the RKO anywhere and at anytime from nowhere (I still say it's a complete rip-off of DDP's Diamond Cutter, though. It's hard to say who used the move better.) He's also great on the mic and can get the crowd pumped or get them to hate him, depending on if he's a heel or face at the time. The fact that he can do both with the crowd is amazing.
