Secret of Mana is better than most all Ys games, with the exception of I & II and perhaps Origin.

But while Ys remained strong as a series (best ARPG series of all time, no question) Mana shat the bed hard after installment #3.

I think of lot of y'all just don't like computer ARPGs. Do you like stuff like Hydlide and Lagoon?

I don't think it's better than Ys Seven or Oath in Felghana.

This is not me saying that Secret of Mana is bad though. It's better than Terranigma.

At least that version was actually developed by Falcom. (DS version was developed by Interchannel-Holon.)

There are so many different versions of the original Ys I & II, it can be hard to keep up with what's what. When I beat the original Ys, it was via the 1998 Ys Eternal PC version. I used an English patch to do so: http://www.ysutopia.net/index.php?ind=d ... iew&iden=3
Well then, if I hate this version, then I still have good reason to eventually try Oath of Felgana and Celceta on my PSP and Vita respectively then :)

Never heard of them. :P

I'm still pretty interested in other Falcom games though. The aesthetics and music in the Y's games is amazing. Maybe I'll dig The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky.

BoneSnapDeez wrote:Ys Origin isn't too long. A single-character playthrough is like twelve hours.

btw if you are enjoying this one The Ark of Napishtim and The Oath in Felghana use the same engine and are decent in their own right.

You're getting into the TurboGrafx now? Get Ys Book I & II, Ys III, and Ys IV. This will run you around $200 or so (assuming you get the NA versions of Book I & II and III) but I know you're a high roller. GOD TIER GAMES. CAN'T FLEECE THE YS.
I've got Ys III for SNES; is the TG16 version superior in any way (other than being on a superior console)?

I'll admit, I got instantly killed by a wood golem thingy. After that, I tried to "bump" them to death once I got a sword, but it never seemed to work. The game got a LOT easier once I discovered that swinging your sword is actually a thing Xp.

@Elkin
IIRC, Ys III on SNES Is basically a totally different game from the TG16 version. I could be remembering that wrong though. That might be Ys IV.

Nah they're both mostly similar and ports of the PC-88 original. The Turbo version has WAY better hit detection and the redbook audio is phenomenal.

I'd love to get them on TGCD, but I'm having trouble finding a CD unit for less than $300, and that's before I get the games. I may have a knack for spending more money than I have, but that's still a high price... :?

I'll still give that one a shot, since it looks totally different.

What I want is something with the graphics of Y's I & II and the combat of Origin.
