So I promise that they WILL step up. But yeah, it does take some time and was an interesting idea that didn't have the best execution. I still need to finish the game; I'm in the last major section if I recall right but I ran into a boss I was not prepared for and then got distracted by other games.

Kuruwin wrote:Third main mission done in Nioh. The gameplay mostly seems solid so far but the levels haven't been interesting and the third one was kinda boring. I also don't like the bosses because they seem to be really frustrating to do alone instead of being healthy challenge.

One complaint I have heard about Nioh is that some bosses take absolute ages to kill. What would differentiate a boss that's frustrating from one that's a healthy challenge?

Atelier Totori: The Adventurer of Arland (PS3)

I started playing this last night. I felt like playing a lighthearted cheery turn based JRPG and that's exactly what this is. I previously beat Atelier Rorona Plus before this, about two years ago. I experienced a lot of the same initial reactions. "This is some serious girly weeaboo shit, is this really what my life has come to?" Which quickly subsides into; "Hey this is kinda fun. There are some nice deep game systems here. Whoa that lady is kinda hot, OH she's joining my party! WAIFUS WAIFUS EVERYWHERE damn I'm running out of time." There's definitely something relaxing, alluring, and addictive about these Atelier games. Did you know they're in the top 4 biggest selling JRPG series in Japan? There are 18 mainline games, and loads of spinoff games.

I'll admit from the outside looking in, these Atelier games look kinda derpy. But this comic captures the reality fairly well:

Dude that series is freaking weird. There's like 200 of them on the PS3 I think.

I started playing Dragon Age Origins for the first time and it's alright. The story is interesting enough but it hasn't really gripped me, similar to when I tried to do Mass Effect. I think maybe I'm just not the biggest Bioware fan. They do good character writing and dialogue but everything in-between is always so middling to me. Maybe this would be better for the unpopular opinions thread.

30 hours of Origins was enough for me. I beat Inquisition and sunk a whopping 70 into that one, but fast forward a few years since it released and it left basically no mark on me at all. It was definitely some filler material while I wasn't really playing much else. The gameplay/combat was actually pretty good. But yeah, I don't know. I have no idea if I'm going to touch Andromeda or not and don't really feel bad about it.

In fact yeah, I have patched Steam KOTOR2 to replay anyways. Much better option!

The Atelier series goes back quite a way, doesn't it? What kind of RPGs are they?

The first game:

They're cute light-hearted turn-based JRPGs with a buttload of item synthesis, crafting, and whatnot. If you don't like that kinda thing you may not like these games.

They're okay. For me it's a "if you played one you've played 'em all" series. The games are really samey with different qt3.14 girls, but they aren't super interesting and there doesn't need to be 347856 installments.

Bone explained the series fairly well, but I disagree with him about the quality. They are pretty similar to one another sure, but so is Tales Of, Dragon Quest, and Ys, and those series still have their stalwart fans. I suggest if you're interested, give one of them a try.

Here's a quick trailer for the one I'm playing now:

There, uh... aren't a lot of clothes in that trailer Xp

It's a series I've been meaning to dip into at some point, as there are so many of 'em. I have the trilogy they did for the PS3 a year or so back, but I haven't touched it yet. Too much Yakuza and Tales to play as of late :P

Also games with time management can really stress me out (like Persona, for example). Even if it isn't that big of an issue in-game, it's a very big barrier to entry for me. It took me months to beat Pikmin 1 when I was younger just because the time limit stressed me out so bad Xp
