I believe, if you switch to the "Crosspad" control scheme, it's virtually identical to DKC on SNES controls.

I can't remember if it still lets you use the analog stick or not, though.

I don't remember using the shoulder buttons to pick up things, hmm...

On the bright side, at least you can take multiple hits in those rocket stages now. Those pissed me off in Returns.

I think a big difference is that the levels are generally bigger in Tropical Freeze. It does have less worlds, but might even be a bigger game because of how huge some of the levels were. They never felt too long though. I loved the crap out of both!

Come to think of it I was reversed TF is nastier, but it's less aggravating in how it's nasty. I also am about as far into world 2 and the poundings on various stages dropping a few lives at the least kind of sucks because the stages are so long it almost gets grating. It's hard to remember, haven't powered on the Wii U in months and it was the last thing I played and it kind of pushed me in another direction.

See, and I thought Tropical Freeze wasn't too hard at all. Just right. Also probably one of my favorite platformers ever made so maybe I'm just crazy.

Nah I'm with you, both are incredible in my book. New Super Mario Bros U was solid (and the best in the NSMB line to me), but doesn't even come close to the Retro DKC's to me.

Thanks playa.

That made all the difference. I thought all that switch would do was swap the stick with the D-pad, but these new controls are 100 times better.

I should learn to read instruction manuals.

Xeograd that one is the only great, maybe even 'good' too New SMB game. The U one at launch is fantastic. They ditched a lot of the stuff that made the New line fairly well suck, feel bland, or like a cookie cutter platformer with Mario stickers on it and went with totally trying to ape the feel, stage style, controls and some of the physics to be like Super Mario World and they did it. I enjoy that game, the handheld titles were just bad and the Wii one was just boring to sit and do.

Now imagine trying to play some of those levels co-op....

I had commented before here with the same sentiment - however I really want to try it single player with the pro controller.

Tropical Freeze is kicking my ass. It's a very well-designed game but damn. The levels are so fast-paced and there's absolutely no room for error. I'm not joking when I say that it's taken me about 8-10 lives to finish an average level so far. And I'm only at the World 2 boss!

I'm not in love with the controls. I'm using the Wii U Pad and I don't like having to use the shoulder buttons to pick stuff up. May switch to another control scheme or drop the cash to get that Wii U Pro Controller.

This isn't a game I plan on finishing any time soon. Hopefully I can just pick away at it until it's done.

It gets worse, some levels need timing that is kind of difficult without multiple attempts.

I would love to see you guys play the bonus TF stages. Did you manage to get to any of them? You had to collect all of something in each world for one to unlock.

They had no checkpoints whatsoever and were basically like rom hack levels. Absolute 110% precision and timing is needed. I think I only got to three of them or something, and they were just huge levels with nonstop pits and ...

How about a video example instead. lol

Wait until the second one. It was insane. Naturally this video makes it look like a cake walk though haha... and don't forget you have to time those jumps off enemies.
