But yeah still doesn't change the fact that there's a thousand icons on several maps and I have a list of 50 some quests. I just don't have the patience or interest in this kind of design thesedays.

Excited for FFXV
Not trying to be an asshole, but FFXV does do the whole open world quest markers on a map thing:

Yeah but I'm sure it's nothing like the Witcher 3 or Besthesda/Ubisoft stuff.

Here's just ONE map. Where I spent most of those 30 hours (probably only cleared half of the map, but still had tons of quests too). No quest markers marked as you can only have one selected at a time. But imagine 100+ gold coins sprinkled on there. Then yellow exclamation points when you're near more quest givers or quest boards. The white are greyed out once you've explored/completed places (some are shops though). And those green boards are fast travel points when you discover them. But still, just posting for size reference.

Something tells me that FFXV map is the size of those unmarked islands on the left.

So I'm just hoping FFXV is "doable". I'm hoping it's more of a Borderlands/Dragon Age kind of thing with big maps. But nothing truly open world. Maybe others can confirm this or not.

You do realize a large number of those Witcher 3 icons are things like where the shopkeepers are, where cave entrances are, etc, right? You also don't have to visit every single icon.

Short version: Witcher 3 is TOO BIG and overall not for me.

FFXV looks more appealing to me.

So far on HLTB the fastest time I've seen for beating only the main story in FFXV was 16 hours, the longest someone has taken so far is 55 hours, I guess doing more optional stuff:

http://howlongtobeat.com/game.php?id=3537&s=completions

Whereas with Witcher 3, the average main story beat time is 47 hours, with 99 hours being the average "main + extra", meaning doing a lot of sidequests.

So that leads me to believe that FFXV is probably a lot shorter with less filler content, and you may have a chance of beating it before you burn out.

Beat Tales of Phantasia a couple years ago. It's a tough, but good RPG.
Spy Lens Makes the battles so much easier though. Especially against Dhaos....trying not to use a guide unless I nesscarily have to due to my general nature to just get lost and there being no clues on how to get through. Ymir forest there was something about the bush babies but that was no help with their weird wandering that confused the crud out of me and got me more lost

Some of my friends claim 200 some hours with all the Witcher 3 DLC haha (which I did get the GOTY version).

Anyways not like I'm trying to complain about too much content or that I hated those 30 hours I played, hardly that. But yeah... I like to see games through to the end and move onto other things. Witcher 3 is just a bit too crazy for me and like Ex's heard, FFXV sounds a lot more manageable. The comparison probably shouldn't even be made, but I just kind of brought it up since I'll be jumping from the Witcher 3 to FFXV soon personally.

I was going to start Ys: Memories of Celceta tonight. Then I remembered it's actually Ys IV, except this time made by Falcom. And that made me remember that I had beaten the 1993 SFC version of Ys IV (Mask of the Sun -- the turd made by Advance Communication), but I had not played Ys IV: Dawn of Ys yet (the 1993 PCECD game by Hudson Soft). So I decided why not do them in order, and finish the PCECD version before the Vita one. Thus far I've spent an hour with Dawn of Ys, and it's definitely better than Mask of the Sun. I'm playing the English fan translation that also includes an English dub which is surprisingly very good.

I almost bought that at Gamestop today (I had a 20% off birthday coupon since my birthday is Monday), but I ended up going with Tales of Zestiria instead. Did I choose poorly?

In my opinion, yes, because Ys > Tales.

But Tales of Zestiria is still worth owning (I've got it on PS3).

If you've never beaten an Ys game before, go with this:

https://www.gog.com/game/ys_origin

Not only is it technically (plot wise) the first game in the series, it's also the best. If you don't enjoy it, Ys may not be the series for you. I bet you'll love it though.

The Dawn of Ys MURDERS Mask of the Sun. Positively shits all over it.

For some reason there's a PS2 remake of Mask of the Sun. There's no fan translation and, trust me here brah, you don't need to play it.

I & II, The Dawn of Ys, and Origin are the best in the series.
