What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
Not sure what I'd do in your shoes sabrage. The longer you struggle with that place the worse it gets, but at the same time like you mentioned and as I've easily experienced, it's pretty rough out there right now. I'd maybe hold on if you could while looking around for now, but yeah. Sounds like a situation.
I'm already kind of bored with the CVS job I got in December, lol. But I'm not really complaining, still a good company and my insurance kicks in this month which is awesome, but yeah just not the ideal career or anything I want to stick around in forever. I might switch departments though, I'm feeling a little tired of the physical work and team based environment at this point (all my jobs have been this), but there's a computer desk job doing entries for orders and stuff. Sounds like something most people would hate (and I hear that around here a lot, although people in the department like it), but I'm ready for change and an independent job might be more stress free to me. I don't know. Probably will give it a few more months then I'll see if I can transfer and try it out.
It sounds more challenging too and I think I just might need that. My current position is just braindead work and boring, lol.

I'm 20. I throw papers, though I doubt that you threw 150+ papers per night when you were 13? My previous work was in retail and food service, and I took this job because I hate interacting with strangers. I have zero false enthusiasm or work ethic to spare for a job I'm not invested in and I have terrible sleeping habits, so this job actually works out pretty well in those regards because it's fairly autonomous... But I've been charged for one too many bullshit complaints on a night with 80mph wind to take a pay cut like this in stride.gtmtnbiker wrote:
How old are you and what is your current job? What is your post-HS education? What kind of job are you trying to get?
My early job history was something like this:
12 - paper route (1 day a week), snow shoveling
13 - paper route (6 days a week), snow shoveling
16 - restaurant bus boy/dishwasher for 1 month, and then broiler chef
18 - college, worked restaurant job during winter break, and then two jobs over the summer break (restaurant job on weekends, computer operator job weekdays)
22 - graduated college, software development

Is your current job keeping you 100% busy? If not, volunteer for extra work/duties. That sort of initiative will get you promoted.Xeogred wrote: I'm already kind of bored with the CVS job I got in December, lol. Complaining about a job after 4 months is not going to get you anywhere. You should be in a job for a minimum of 1-2 years before trying to transfer.

Yeah, I know how it is. I got my 1st job when I was 16, working at a pizza joint, part time. I kept that job 'till I was almost 20, and for the last few months, I also worked full time as a molding machine operator for a wood manufacturing company. After that, I had a lot of shitty restaurant jobs, some in management, but all very unsatisfying.
I lucked out, and for the last 3 years, I've been working at a machine shop which does production, tooling, and die work as well. I can now program, operate, repair, and maintain all of the CNC machinery in the shop. I'm the 3rd most important guy in the company.
I had no previous experience, and learned everything on-site. It's not ideal, but it's never the same everyday, and I've learned many valuable skills. Also, it's one of the few occupations that requires you use Algebra, Geometry, and sometimes Trig on a weekly basis. So, having no secondary education, and only a G.E.D., I got rather lucky. Plus, I'm enrolled in the company's Apprenticeship Program, so I'm now getting a post-primary education, and on my way to becoming a established Toolmaker, even at 27 yrs. old.
It'll happen man, just be patient.

Good luck, friend. I hope all turns out well.harper wrote:woo, just got back from getting my heart monitor.
Also, I get like that, too. I end up buying tons of shit, and playing nothing for a while, so don't sweat it.

Finally got rid of that stinking carpet in my living room and replaced it with click laminate. Looks much better, and above all will be much more hygienic for my cats who both have Feline Upper Respiratory Disease Complex. Also, this gave me a chance to test my DeWalt combi miter / table saw... ^^

Re: What Made you Smile/What Ticked you off Today?
I honestly don't see the point of the monitor. They have me on meds that keep my heart rate under control for the most part so I'm not sure what they're expecting to find. But the cardiologist didn't want me to quit taking the meds because he said if I do, it'll just make things worse. That's a big reason why I want to figure all of this out, I don't like the idea of having to be on the meds for an indefinite amount of time, and I'm still having other symptoms that aren't being treated or even really looked at. At least they don't seem to be as bad or as frequent as they were before I started taking the medicine.
On a totally different note, I went to goodwill after seeing the doctor and they didn't have shit.
