Thanks guys. I agree that I might need a new part time hobby. Just something to renew my interest in life, I guess. I definitely need to quit buying so many damn video games at one time and slow down so I can enjoy what I already have. As for everything else, I've just gotta wait and see what happens. Maybe it'll be an easy fix and I'll feel better than ever in no time.

So my boss handed me a renegotiated contract to sign (I was given notice that my old one would expire) due to budget cuts. I didn't really look at it because the most important change was to our pay rate, and I didn't have a current paycheck to compare. Basically my boss expects me to accept a 10% pay cut in addition to getting no days off (that's not in the contract; it's just how it works in reality) in the worst job on the planet.... I doubt there's any room for negotiation, so looks like I'll be quitting my job.

Yeah it's pretty basic, so I'm only taking it at a few episodes off and on randomly. I think some of my friends liked the third season the most... I think, it was supposedly a more serious one that some people disliked (because of the slightly more serious tone), but I'm curious to see that for myself. Seems like good 90's fun in the vein of Tenchi, El Hazard, etc.
Absolutely. The one thing I kept thinking to myself when watching it for the first time was "Man, this would've fit perfectly on Toonami or something."

I read somewhere once that Fox Kids bought the broadcast rights to the show just so Toonami wouldn't get it. Dunno how much truth there is to that.

I can relate. My stupid company got themselves bankrupt. We got a new contract a few months back, we're pretty sure the company bought the union out. There's some stupid things in there. Like every employee's first straight time hour of the week is at minimum wage. So if you're working 40 straight time hours (we get paid time and a half on Sundays) you'll get paid for 39 hours at your normal hourly rate, then one hour at minimum wage. Awesome, right? Some of the older employees that have been there forever would make double time on Sundays (that's what it was years ago). Now every one only makes time and a half on Sundays. And now all full timers have to rotate Sundays, so those guys are taking a pretty big hit. Another stupid thing is that for the next five years (the length of this current contract) no one is getting a raise. And a few other stupid things.

Needless to say, I'm looking for another job. I'm actually going back down to that guitar shop I mentioned some pages back. Wish me luck.

And good luck to you, sabrage.

My gut instinct right now is to sell all my games, drop out of school and start a DIY punk band or become a street artist or something. My time spent in the American workforce has pretty much influenced me to believe that the only proper career choice for me is none. Something about earning an honest living flares up every ounce of apathy and cynicism in me.

Maybe you've just had the wrong jobs?

Well, they're not exactly easy to come by these days, and working the wrong ones unfortunately only tells me what not to do.

Yup, no doubt. But I'd hate to see someone swear off working forever just because they've had bad jobs. The right career can be rewarding. Besides, pretty much everyone has to endure a string of shit jobs until they are in their 20s (or later), so your experience probably isn't anything that's especially unique to you. I'd suggest that devoting more energy to school is probably your best bet for acquiring the connections and means to rise above your current station and finding something that you enjoy doing. A DIY band is also great, but as the only plan it seems overly risky. It sounds like you need to find the right balance, not shift everything into one basket or the other...

It's really not a snap decision; I've pretty much been drifting along for the last year or so and this coincides nicely with my ever-increasing need to make some radical changes in my life.

How old are you and what is your current job? What is your post-HS education? What kind of job are you trying to get?

My early job history was something like this:

12 - paper route (1 day a week), snow shoveling
13 - paper route (6 days a week), snow shoveling
16 - restaurant bus boy/dishwasher for 1 month, and then broiler chef
18 - college, worked restaurant job during winter break, and then two jobs over the summer break (restaurant job on weekends, computer operator job weekdays)
22 - graduated college, software development
