In the coast town of Eureka, CA, near where we camped every summer there was one at the laundry mat. My mom would do laundry, and we'd play the arcade. But it was a multi-cab of some sort, because Space Harrier was on there, too.Valkyrie-Favor wrote:During work today, I stopped at a gas station/McDonald's in the middle of nowhere. A Neo Geo MVS. It was flawless, and I could choose between Metal Slug X, Strikers 1945, Fatal Fury, and some soccer game.
When I turned around, I saw some hunting games, some bowling games, and a shinobi arcade machine.
I've never seen one of these before, not even in a big arcade. But now there's one in a gas station in the middle of the plains somewhere in Wisconsin.
McDonalds took so long with my food, I didn't get to play either of them.

Is there a sub-genre name for on-rails, sort-of-3D games like Space Harrier, Galaxy Force, and After Burner? There were quite a few of them.

I had always thought that only applied to the light-gun shooters.Hobie-wan wrote:Rail shooters.BurningDoom wrote:Is there a sub-genre name for on-rails, sort-of-3D games like Space Harrier, Galaxy Force, and After Burner? There were quite a few of them.

Have a job that sometimes entails driving a truck/trailer or van equipped with a hand cart and dollies over interstate, and a nearby toll road plaza used to have a vintage Ms. Pac Man. The idea of just rolling up with a cart, unplugging it, and making a hasty exit crossed my mind a few times... until I reminded myself what a stupid idea that is.Valkyrie-Favor wrote:During work today, I stopped at a gas station/McDonald's in the middle of nowhere. Even though you can move around the screen, you're still pretty much on a fixed path with perhaps the occasional left or right choice. It might just be essentially like you're stuck in a tunnel with a little leeway as opposed to being forced along like a roller coaster but can turn or even which way you're facing like some light gun games.

I spent about an hour trying to solve a problem with the music playback in Galaga: Destination Earth on my Windows 7 PC. The solution: place the disc in the top (D:) DVD drive instead of the bottom (E:) one.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Holy crap what happened to Keio Flying Squadron values in the past year? It was nuts enough a year ago. Was there some high profile old school review or something that brought it to everyone's attention or something?

Good question. I have no idea. When did HG101 write their piece on them?Hobie-wan wrote:Holy crap what happened to Keio Flying Squadron values in the past year? It was nuts enough a year ago. SNES prices are back on the rise too. They leveled off for a good portion of the year but are going back up now.
