Why is FLUDD Mario not in Super Smash Brothers? You could probably drown everyone.

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
I never bought Xenoblade on Wii either, or the other two from operation rainfall. Xenoblade I watched played out in pictures and talk by an old friend who knew Japanese and the game was so bloody slow with so much side tracking stuff that should really be done I knew between it and the combat style I'd probably crap out around 20 hours into it not getting my value so I avoided it. The other two, Last Story looked solid but came too late for me to invest time or money into and the other same thing as well.
I could see trying those two out, not Xenoblade if they got some re-release in HD.
As for my waggle talk, you say I can't blame the hardware because of bad implementation? Sure I can, because it didn't work right at all in many games other than a direct pointer up until Motion Plus came out to remedy that and it was awesome, but too late to make a big difference which was sad. And why couldn't someone blame the overall Wii hardware for the situation it put Nintendo in with the regular game buying public? They basically put a very underpowered machine out with unfinished motion controls that needed a bandaid years later that few wanted to support. I enjoyed using the system off and on in spurts (more earlier as you go in the life) but it just wasn't there. When I was picking on it for the waggle, I was thinking of all the poorly tacked on uses including in New SMB where you had to stop using it as a NES ocntroller of sorts to waggle/flick the thing to do the mario spin jump which isn't conducive to proper platforming. I may have ditched it earlier this year, but I do still have MP Trilogy and Indiana Jones as they both used it well.

This new Xeno game looks like Phantasy Star, which pleased me. Partly because we may not see another Phantasy Star game in the states ever again.

Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
I must have been such a pro to play through the fairly challenging DKCR with "the waggle", since it worked so poorly. Expect that it practically responds on-frame, and couldn't really be any better. (And no, I'm not talking about the motion plus, I used a regular Wiimote).
You also hold it sideways for that game, or "nes style", and... you don't have to change your holding position to waggle. There is nothing unnatural about it whatsoever, its a simple shake and, ta-da. I don't know why you would change holding position to waggle in NSMBW either, and on top of that I'm pretty sure you could access the waggle move in some other fashion (B or something, I don't recall).
I don't mean this to sound rude, but these complaints sound like the same complaints I've always heard from people who I'm assuming barely gave the game a shot. The controls might not be perfect right when you start playing, but this has been true of games for as long as I can remember. Alien Soldier is a damn hard game to control, same with Ranger-X, or God Hand, but you spend maybe 5 minutes actually playing and thinking about the game, and not whining about it, and you learn how it works, and then it works fairly well. This is exactly how I felt playing DKCR, and when the game clicks, it plays like butter. Prime Trilogy, Skyward Sword, Galaxy games, all control perfectly fine to me.

That is the thing though, we all have our preferences. I personally dislike all forms of waggle type control. Shake the control here or point it there. It really turns me off from a game if it is forced.

Actually I am, just not with Nintendo in the last few years. The Wii was the first home console I ever sold out of disgust. I got a PS4 last Wednesday and haven't gone a day yet not using it and took down Wolfenstein already which was a blast. Looking to likely start up Tomb Raider this evening.alienjesus wrote:You're not often pleased by much are you?Tanooki wrote:Relentless negativity
I have to admit I'm also pleased to see how much illogical fan based butthurt there is here over me using the word waggle in relation to the Wii. I mean if the shoe fits, regardless if it is fair or not, that's how it was most often abused. As far as New SMB went, I never did finish it but I did play it through World 6 of 7 over an extended period, I just couldn't get much into it, and I only held it NES style. DKCR I only had on the 3DS so I have no idea if that one handled waggling better or not for its functions. As I said already more than once, the Wii was awesome with games using it as a pointing device like FPS, point and click, Alien Syndrome to direct your gun, and RTS like games as it really did work great like a mouse. There were just a lot of stuff where it was used poorly by design, badly coded (like the original Red Steel), a cheap shortcut for a pre-set motion (zelda which is far better on gamecube), or was almost tacked on to be there (like mario.)
Jmustang - Thank you. You get it and you're not getting all pissed off over the fact I don't care for motion controls in most genres. I find it cute the positive stuff I've said including the games it was nice in totally gets glossed over for selective bitching. If motion was so great it makes you wonder why almost no one uses it with the WiiU or why even Sony basically quietly killed the Move too eh?
Re: Wii-U thoughts so far
FWIW, this thread has long been adverse to anything other than "positive Wii-U (and Nintendo) thoughts so far".
