I realize I'm putting this here with some of the most knowledgable Atari 2600 fans on the planet, but this guide was designed for the new Atari 2600 owner! Learn about the hardware variations, how to connect to your TV, controller types and also some rockin’ game recommendations for day 1.
Is the "immortal" John Hancock acquiring a bit of a personality?
BTW, it's mentioned in the vid that that RF cable can't be directly connected to your TV.
If you're speaking for your US based audience, that's probably right.
As far as the rest of us is concerned, that's not necessarily accurate.
Speaking for myself, it's a simple case of connecting one end of this,
to the aerial connection on the TV,
No switch boxes or whatever else needed.

I'm in the USA. I'm not big on Atari, but I'm pretty sure you only need one of these...
That adapts an RCA style plug to coaxial. The Atari 2600 has an RF output via an RCA style jack. Normally you'd plug it into a switcher (so you can switch between the Atari and cable/antenna) but I believe you can just plug it straight into the TV (with the above adapter).
The downside is that you'd have to manually change cables if you were using anything else with the RF input on the TV. But in this day in age... who's still using RF?
Also, there's other consoles that output RF via an RCA jack. NES, SNES, Genesis (model 1) and TG16 IIRC. These consoles came with an RF adapter that had an automatic switch built into it. I know that this type of RF adapter is interchangeable between the NES, SNES and Genesis. Does anyone know if it's interchangeable between ANY console that outputs RF with an RCA jack? Atari 2600, Commodore 64, etc.
edit: Just watched the video. I see that some of the info I posted wasn't needed lol. Oh well.
I'll just add that, for those that care, you're not limited to RF with the Atari 2600. You can buy kits to modify them to output better video (usually composite and S-Video). Not only is the audio and video better quality, but then you don't have to mess around with RF connections, adapters, switches, whatever.
So many great games with additional modes on the 2600, especially the tease at the end on the TShirt concerning Space invaders with the invisible vaders. My pick would be Slot Racers with the Speed setting to max to play as the Vector Arcade Space Wars.
Other must have games are not just arcades which are done better on Mame (well, maybe not Space invaders for its unique modes); how about all the games exclusive to just the 2600? Indy Car with the driving controllers and capture the flag is a blast! A rapid find the exit puzzler to get is Maze Craze. I would say a great Hidden Gem would be Stellar Track; a "Main Frame Super Star Trek" Telegames Sears exclusive.
The older Six Switch Model so much better then the 2600jr and 7800 for the robust cartridge port. Having the large difficulty switches instead of tinny slide switches especially handy for games that use then during actual game play such as Activision Star Master for pulling the sector map.
To get the best unmodified video out of the 2600 RF, forget nostalgia with the old "Rabbit Ear" spade connector CRT TV. Hook the 2600 up to a newer "flat glass" CRT for the clean image.
Great to mention the Genesis controller, a nice easy to find option over the hand cramping 2600 joystick. The EPYX dip switch stick mentioned is very good too, my favorite 2600 Joystik with its solid click tactical feedback.
Here are 10 lesser known fun games that should be in every NES game collectors library! w/ John Riggs
I have to say this is one of the most fun videos I have made. John & I were tired after a day of PAX and we are just sillier and looser than normal. It made for some funny conversation and teasing! I hope you guys enjoy it!
