I'm a bit weak in 5th gen, but as long as there's a PC port GOG.com should have it, so I'm good.alienjesus wrote:Y'know, with both Ape Escape and Oddworld being taken away from the list, we have no representation next year for the PS1/N64/Saturn era of consoles right now.
I reckon I might go digging for some worthy 5th gen horror themed titles for next year in that case.

I hate the idea of combining games. I feel like it defeats the purpose of a video game club.
Re: POLL: Together Retro 2014 Nominations & Discussion Thre
If you look back at the first few years in TR, they did that quite a bit. In all honesty, if games didn't get bumped off due to the polls, DE and SH and whatever else would have been on the calendar and all this could've been avoided. I think this was the right thing to do, at least to just put it up for consideration. As of right now, I'm satisfied it even got this far.Violent By Design wrote:I hate the idea of combining games. I am pleased that Psychonauts will be on the calendar, but I also feel a little worn out. Phew... This has been a lengthy discussion. I want to take a moment to applaud this little piece of sanity:
Well said sir, well said. I applaud these words.SpaceBooger wrote:Again, the strength and commitment of this community is awesome. I only hope that we can get as much debate and discussion as we have had about what game to play when we are all playing a game. If we can it will be the most successful year of TR ever.

I didn't participate in the past TRs when it came to selecting, so that's on them. In fact, even though I've participated in two calenders this is the first time I'm helping choose the games.ExedExes wrote:

Yeah, but the first few years were basically chosen by Racketboy and were just games he liked or needed to beat. It wasn't as organised as it is now.

Re: POLL: Together Retro 2014 Nominations & Discussion Thre
Thank you Samson.
The arcade games that make the list I usually quarter munch them. I love quarter munching it's fun, a nice change of pace, and a great way to waste an hour or so - which is usually the only hour I dedicate to to that game.
With that being said, I don't see why not to have an arcade month with multiple games that if chosen can be beat in one sitting if one want to play that style. I know I would try to play and beat everyone if I could quarter munch. If someone is dedicated to 1ccing an arcade game they can focus and discuss strategy for that one game only.
Remember it's all about getting us to participate as a community - multiple long games = mess, multiple short arcade style games = fast paced fun.

Re: POLL: Together Retro 2014 Nominations & Discussion Thre
Yeah, I outright disagree.
It's also about dedicating time to a game and truly experiencing it. Some of the most active discussions in Together Retro have been around arcade games like DoDonPachi, several fighting games and even stuff like Alien Crush which is a one table pinball game, whereas more in depth games like Populous have garnered little attention.
Writing articles covering 4 games is complicated, and messy on the sites front page. People aren't going to be discussing with each other as much if everyones playing different games - it's gonna be small pockets of people discussing with each other, rather than the community as a whole.
I'm fine stretching to a double feature once a year in October (and it works well if we end up playing a survival horror, where not everyone is down for that), but it should be an exception rather than the standard.

I dont care for the double game thing in October either. It's weird wanting to go in and read Zombie ate my neighbor post and have to shift through Silent Hill things that go over my head.
