I play mostly beat em' ups, shmups, arcade style action platformers and fighting games. If I can't use my arcade stick on it, I'm using a Saturn pad.

>arcade style action platformers

Are these any different from other action platformers?

Strider and Contra? Metal Slug? Shinobi? Ninja Gaiden? Arcade stick or Saturn pad.

It may not be a 2nd gen Saturn pad, but, you can do worse. At least the Dual Shock has a decent enough d-pad (not teensy or unresponsive), and has enough buttons in an ordered arrangement to be a competent (though hardly optimal) fighting game controller.

Arguably, wouldn't any semi-serious/serious fighting game fan go to a stick anyway?

I always go there. I was trying to take a break from it. But yes. If you play fighting games regularly, you should have a stick.

It's backwards compatible with Wii games, peripherals, controllers, accessories, what have you. Very cool.
Yep. But most likely Gamecube support is gone. So I wouldn't plan to sell your Wii just yet.. unless you have a Gamecube with a component cable.

..and good riddance. There is absolutely no reason whatsoever for the WiiU to have GameCube support.

good riddance?

why?

I can understand maybe not caring about b/c, but actively wanting it to be excluded or being happy about its exclusion?

Why not? If it can play Wii games, it's probably got the hardware needed.

I can see it from Nintendo's point of view - they can remaster Gamecube games and sell them again - but for the consumer there seems to be little reason they wouldn't want that.

Those are the games I had in mind when I struck out "arcade style" from you post. I was asking if you were talking about some other sub-genre. Back when I played Ninja Gaiden and Contra, I was forced to use PS2 controllers, it was manageable, perhaps because those are the only controllers I've played it on. The only games I've ever had the chance to use a stick on were this old Power Ranger game, and Frogger. The Power Ranger one was basically an action platformer with some racing segments thrown in, and now that you mention it, it really did control much better than most I've played. I'd figure anything with at least two buttons and a way to move around would work well to some degree though.

If I had more money I'd get Arcade Stick controllers, but no. I don't play fighters enough to require a fighting pad though.

I'm with you, irixith.

If we're going to start taking logic like that then we should start complaining that the N64 should be compatible with NES and SNES games.

I was quite dissapointed with the third party lineup. If I wanted games like that I would own a 360.
Thanks everyone...

I think that's what most current 360 owners are thinking, too.
