After 12 hours I think I'm ready to do the main quest in Blood & Wine. There's a lot of content here.

I've been very busy drowning in school-hell the past week to play games, but I've put a couple of more stages into FE:Fates Birthright. It's so hard to put together a strategy for this game. A lot of that is basically due to how much I played Awakening, so I keep trying to play it like that. Grouping units into a single group though is just so much less effective than it used to be though, even for high support-level pairs. No longer can you just put a big, fat bruiser in with a really mobile unit and expect them to wreck similar amounts of shit.

I'm really not one to do the support-focused stuff as a waifu simulator. I really prefer efficient pairs as opposed to story-tastic ones generally. However, the new combat rules make it much harder to deduce which kinds of pairs will make the most efficient combos, so I'm just sorta doing it arbitrarily for how I feel at the moment. I made my Corrin (or Kamui, as is the default name in the Japanese version) have the special talent of mage when I made him, expecting him to be just like the weird Tactician uber-class from Awakening. Then I learn he's just a swordsman until he upgrades, so idk what I'm gonna do with him in terms of pairing. I'm thinking of pairing him with Felicia (the maid you start with), because they have a cute relationship and she's also a weird hybrid class.

Also, there are far more characters in this game whose gender is difficult to tell from their names, class, and appearance. In a game focused around gender pairings which generate children, that can get annoying (Tsubaki the pegasus knight (the one with long, red, flowing hair) being a boy and Setsuna the archer being a girl were both very confusing to me).

Pairing is still really effective, it's just you need to be more conscious of how to take advantage of it. The stacking units into a single one is your defensive pair; use that to hold chokes or to counter an enemy assault pair. Two units standing next to each other is your assault pair; that's your big damage unit. Since both get to attack before the enemy does you can wipe out enemy units free and clear.

The Maid/Butler is a caster class that gets access to physical weapons. There is a magic throwing knife/shuriken available later on that goes really well on Felicia.

Persona: a little soon for a update maybe, but made it to the SEBEC building. Now if only i could stop hitting dead ends. I really need a way out to find somewhere to buy some supplies. Even though I'm on beginner since i'm not used to dungeon crawlers like this, I'm still wishing I'd of figured out where to buy supplies before rushing in like this. Using Maki's dia is nice and all but that'll run out eventually especially if I don't find somewhere to heal soon.

Dark Souls II: SoTFS - I was (eventually) able to down the Fume Knight (hurray for running away and frantically firing Dark Orb at him in the second phase), and after a few stabs at getting to the optional boss for Crown of the Old Iron King, moved on to the Ivory King DLC. Wrapped up the required bosses for that last night (albeit using NPC summons), and then did a little farming of items that seemed interesting and exhausting dialogue with Vendrick to make the wearable crowns extra good.
Technically, I have the three optional DLC bosses, and still Darklurker I could kill. Plus other stuff to collect or find...but I may or may not keep at it until I do all that. I should probably at least try, but given that my playtime has crept past 90 hours already, I wouldn't really feel bad about putting it away.

90 hours sounds about right, by far the largest Souls game with the DLC tacked on.

The optional DLC bosses basically require the help of phantoms/parties for sure... one of them is straight up 3 vs player, so yeah.

But you should at least do Sir Alonne. Congrats on Fume Knight, he was insane.

Still pluggin' away in Gateway to Apshai.

I've reached a state where I could conceivably consider the game "beaten" (games this old predate endings) but I'd like to hone my skills a bit more.

The combat system is fuggin' horrible. It's a sloppy ARPG button-mashing shitfest where it's essentially impossible to inflict damage without taking some yourself. Similar to what was seen in Hydlide later on, except without the rest-healing. I find it best to simply avoid most enemies. I can outrun 'em and they get trapped on the walls. Serves you bastards right.

Well, I don't have any updates. Outside of some stuff Thursday night with friends, I haven't actually gotten to touch a game in a week. It's been a really busy week. I will hopefully get back to Eye of the Beholder at some point soon.
