AEW's problem is a lack of consistency. They'll have a great PPV or a great moment or story line, but then they piss away all of that momentum and just go back to being unfocused again. It's really irritating. I wish the company just had some direction. I feel like Tony is just all over the place. I feel like AEW doesn't have a vision right now or an identity. They're not even the cool alternative anymore as in many ways they have become as stale, boring, and at times ridiculous (see MJF/Adam Cole storyline) as WWE used to be.
As for WWE, the most interesting thing for me lately has been WWE's women's division. I say this because there is a sense of anything being possible. I don't know when Tiffany Stratton is going to cash in. I don't know how long Liv Morgan will be champion. Roxanne Perez could drop the title at any time, probably to Julia but that isn't set in stone. On top of all that WWE has two new women's titles that need to be crowned on someone.
By contrast, when I look at WWE's men's division I just see brick walls. We know Cody isn't dropping the title any time soon. Hell, he never even loses matches. They don't really have anyone ready to take Gunther's title, except arguably Jey Uso. They clearly have no creative direction for Raw's tag titles, so nothing interesting there either. They barely ever even defend them. The men's divisions in WWE are just on cruise control right now. The only really interesting thing is the New Day heel turn which is getting nuclear heat, but where is that ultimately gonna go?
I agree with you on the DVD thing. Digital content of any kind in 2024 is a joke unless it involves a sail boat and pirate hat. Physical collecting has more value now than ever before.
