Depends. I was responding more in the sense of MS not publishing much else in a while, as that's how I read your statement. The general point is that MS has published a fairly wide variety of titles on the Xbox One (as has Sony for the PS4), and has more coming (Quantum Break and ReCore, and maybe Phantom Dust if they figure out what to do with that, etc).

I'd say the scrutiny on Nintendo's output is more of a platform vs platform thing. Objectively, all three platform holders publish a variety of titles. At this point though, Nintendo is pretty much carrying the Wii U, versus MS or Sony's platforms hosting a huge range of third party software in addition to what they publish.

From what I've heard, however, the NX is PS4ish level hardware. If Nintendo can manage to have good developer tools and licensing terms, maybe we'll be able to have it all in one box.
ElkinFencer10 wrote: The biggest problem is that the development studio didn't have enough experience, I think. I know a lot of the people working there are experienced developers, but the studio itself has only made Devil's Third so far, and (correct me if I'm mistaken on this) most of the individuals' experience lie in fighting games and hack and slash games rather than shooters (probably explains why the sword combat felt more solid to me than the guns).
I think it's more that it's another one of those games that was in development limbo, swapped platforms, etc. Maybe it's Itagaki's Daikatana.

Either in bed or on the sofa. Or in my classroom when I should be writing lesson plans. Or in my classroom when my kids are taking a test. Or in some other classroom when I'm administering an extremely important state exam. Or in a faculty meeting when I'm pretending to pay attention....

I always felt that the Legend of Heroes series was born because Falcom felt "obligated" to make a standard turn-based JRPG after conquering the world of action-RPGs.
Didn't the psp versions change the battle system entirely though?

My understanding was that the original pc releases of these three games had a completely different and unique battle system that the psp ports changed for whatever reason.

Yeah, I just looked at the PC version and it looks like a bad version of Growlanser or something. Like a semi-realtime Ultima? The PSP versions sport combat closer to that of the Trails games, or Lunar, if you prefer that reference.

Oh, boy, lots to parse there. The one I can agree with, though, is that I prefer the FF entries you mention as well. Everybody knows where I come down on Metroid and Zelda, so I'll not belabor the point.

A lot of N64 games... aren't that good. They haven't aged well at all. There are a few timeless classics, though. The Dreamcast is interesting as a system, because it's got a lot of arcade-y games, which means if that's not your cup-o'-tea, it can leave you indifferent.

Oh, and to bring back a played out meme at this point, "Im'ma let you finish, but Chrono Trigger is the best JRPG of all time!"

Okay, I'm done now. ;)

Some responses just for shigs:

-I only recently tried Pokémon when the Omega Ruby/Alpha Sapphire ones were free to try on the eShop. I was more relieved than anything when I realized they were kinda boring to me. Last thing I need is another series/IP to want to dive into.

-Liked RE5. Nothing compared to the OG Resident Evils though. RE6 makes me want to vomit. People think it's mediocre and it's still overrated. Piece of trash game.

-I love Sega but one thing I'll say about the Dreamcast is it's definitely quality over quantity. You could fill a bathtub with Dreamcast titles that either aren't good or are so dated there's just no reason to play them.

-I like new gen games but only in spurts, and it's still often stuff that's very same-y.

-FPS' are pretty alike IMO too. Of course I liked Titanfall and most people hated it so I guess people just want the same old shit all the time.

-Survival horror pretty much is done except for unique concepts like Fatal Frame or maybe something like Amnesia.

Zelda (series) was a good game, but not great

Post-2007 stuff, agreed.

Pokemon games are boring

Agreed.

I actually like RE5 & 6

Agreed.

I don't know how I feel about the Dreamcast console..

Not even the Dreamcast does. That's why it's still thinking.

I don't really like many of these new gen games...

That's a pretty wide berth of games and genres to just offhand dismiss.

I liked Chrono Cross more than Chrono Trigger (sorry)

I liked them about the same.

FPS games pretty much suck and are all the same (Esp these days)

You sir are wrong in your wrong place.

Survival horror games are overdone

Yeah the genre burnt out years ago, not much left to do with it.
Well, other than VR survival horror, now that'd be something.

I like the idea of N64..but the games...not so much

Agreed. Only a handful of N64 games I truly love.

No interest in the Metroid series

Far as the 2D ones go, you're missing out.

I know Pokémon is the flag-bearer but I've never cared for the "trainer" subgenre of RPGs in general. I generally find these games to be dull and repetitive whilst also requiring an obsessive attention to detail I just don't possess.
