Rah rah! Any progress is progress! Don't fear the paperwork!

I just got to the X-Men credits on Amateur difficulty, which has fewer enemies and stages. It might be more generous with damage resistance, too. Probably not going to move on until I see this through on Hero difficulty.

Speaking of, right now I'm in one of the non-amateur stages, just chilling out and waiting for Wolverine's health to recharge. I've lost Cyclops and Gambit in this playthrough, which is no good... they're my best characters.

Oh, he's done. Back to it.

I have been working away at Chrono Trigger, but I haven't really been posting about it since I feel a bit bad that I'm not enjoying it! :( The big problem for me is that I've gotten past the part where you go to that city in the sky (I think that's about 10ish hours in?), and I am still waiting for something in the plot or characters to interest me. I can't put a finger on exactly what about the plot isn't interesting me, but it just isn't grabbing me? The combat is alright, but I'm still not a big fan of the waiting type system and in any case that's not the think I usually want out of an RPG. I want the good plot and characters!

Sorry if all this sounds really silly or if it's poorly worded, but it's difficult for me to explain since it's not like anything about the feels badly designed or written. I think it's something about the game that doesn't really line up with my personal tastes or something? I really want to like the game, but I can't push myself through the game any longer. Not when I'm so bored after playing for 10 hours :(

Also kind of frustrating that I've tried out four games from my list and I haven't really liked any of them. Kind of worried about the other games I picked out :| I'm thinking I might do Symphony of the Night next, but I'm not sure at the moment.

Changed my mind about X-Men. I'm done.

There are only so many times one can endure twenty minutes of struggling through poor hit detection, terrible platform detection, cheap hits, and having to idle around while your powers recharge... just to get killed by a boss in three hits. Without even being given the faintest clue as to how to do damage to said boss. Oh, and there are no save points either. Even in multi-area stages, it's back to the beginning of the stage you go.

It sure was vindicating to read people complaining about it on the internet, though!

Honestly I am aggravated, because I don't like giving up like this; but when a game is just this plain unfair, when the road to victory requires knowing the one arbitrary and truly random way to cheese a boss, it's time to laugh at hilarious reviews and move on.

And move on I shall, to Contra. Alas, I've been waiting for over a year for my childhood best buddy and I to play through this for the first time together, but life just keeps getting in the way. Right now I feel like I need a pick-me-up, so a great game is called for. But I think I'm going to be sad the whole time, wishing I had the Bean to my Rizer.

I am still working away at my marathon, but I had a super busy week last week and haven't had the chance to sit down and continue with Devil May Cry yet. I should get around to it again this evening.

You are breaking my heart.

I'm eyeing Donkey Kong Country 2. From what I've read this game has collectathon elements, hidden levels, a "true" final boss and ending, and other such nonsense. Worth worrying about my first time playing or should I just try to roll right through this one?

All that stuff is optional unless you wanna go for 100%. Same in DKC 3. 7 of the 8 worlds don't require you to do any collectathon-ing.

Only bothered doing this once back in the day as a kid, before my younger sister accidentally (?) erased my 100% save. Haven't done it since then because yeah it's a bit of a chore.

You will naturally probably get enough bonus coins to check out a few secret levels. Other than that there's the true final boss which I think is a little tougher too, but yeah you're honestly not missing a lot.

DKC3 is when they go completely BANANAS with the collectibles. I still love DKC2-3, but there's a lot to love about DKC1's linear simplicity.

DKC1 also has the best final boss theme of the series.
