Yeah, I've stopped participating. It was fun at first, but then more and more of them started popping up.

I know I am. They're basically just "name things you like" threads, which serve no discussion purpose. Now, if the threads required putting things in ORDER from 1 to 100 in terms of quality, that would be a different story.

I know I am. They're basically just "name things you like" threads, which serve no discussion purpose. Now, if the threads required putting things in ORDER from 1 to 100 in terms of quality, that would be a different story.

Agreed! We ought to start having deeper discussions instead of just listing things. One purpose they do serve, though, is to, as I mentioned a few pages back, introduce people to games similar to the ones they already like. It doesn't necessarily work for the super mega gigantic ARPG/Adventure thread, which really ought to have been severely narrowed down. The "top 100" thing is a gimmick, but hopefully more fruitful discussion can come from the lists, just like how the 100 best video game women and 100 sexiest video game males served as fruitful discussion on gender and sexism in video games.
