Same. I adore them. You can get tons of mileage out of them too. I've been playing Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection for years. It's also nice to be able to play multiple games without switching carts/discs.prfsnl_gmr wrote:Compilations are my favorite. They are a great way to enjoy classic games without resorting to emulation, and I buy them whenever I can.
One thing I particularly enjoy about Intellivision Lives! is how they created "Goals" for many of the games - so you actually have something to shoot for instead of just playing and looping until you inevitably lose or exhaust yourself.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I have emulated my fair share of games, and I didn't mean to make the term sound dirty.
That said, it is generally easier, IMO, to insert a disc and run a game off of a compilation than it is to download an emulator, hunt for ROMs, modify a console, and do all of the other things necessary to run vintage games through a modern console or computer.
Also, as Bone mentioned, many compilations have goals, unlockable features, unlockable interviews, new modes of play, etc. that serve to motivate the player to really learn the intricacies of older games.

Started playing Lunar on the Sega CD. First time playing these games.
Man I can't get over how brisk this game's pace is. Your walk speed is super fast, text displays super fast, battles are over in seconds. Even cutscenes and important story moments quickly get out of the way and move you along.
I'm enjoying it so far though. I just arrived in Merbia in the game, so I'm not really very far in.

Awesome that you are doing this one. I played it on both Sega CD and PS1 back in the 90s. They are fun ports to compare, and I'll guess that you'll want to track down the nice PS1 CE once you finish the Sega CD versionAppleQueso wrote:Started playing Lunar on the Sega CD. Yeah, definitely. Either that or I'll go straight from this one into Lunar 2 and get both remakes later.dsheinem wrote:Awesome that you are doing this one. I've heard that there's a lot of differences in the PS1 versions, so that'll be a lot of fun to compare.

I love Lunar 1 so much that I've played it on Sega CD, Saturn, PS1, GBA, and PSP.
And there's till another version I have never played: the "Complete" Saturn edition.
Such good games. Part 2 is also essential, and I'm quite fond of the spin-off Mahou Gakuen Lunar! as well. Still need to try the Game Gear game.
Oh and avoid Dragon Song. Avoid!!!
