I have yet to try it. I'd prefer to play the others first, but the first game is hard to stick with. Did you pick it because of the card game?

Knowing noise, yes. Also, Fastbilly has been struggling with the first game for...years now? I need to get around to it eventually too.

Haha, no. But I can see why you'd guess that. (I already signed up for the Gwent standalone game beta even!) I'm actually playing it because of so-called "PCG100" project. Basically, when I'm between games or not sure what to play, I go to the current year's PC Gamer list of the 100 best PC games and play the first one on the list that I haven't written about yet. Otherwise, I'd probably not have played this game anytime soon at all. I started the first Witcher a few years ago, and like you - it just didn't suck me in at all. So far I'm finding the 3rd game more appealing. Though I'm not crazy about the combat right now.

Ack wrote:Heh, well, turns out Soul Blazer is really short. I knocked it out last night. I will probably do a write up tomorrow(currently sitting in an auto shop. Some car parts are under recall, so I am getting that taken care of). I liked the game overall...perhaps more than Illusion of Gaia, now that I think of it. It certainly had some quirks, but all in all, it's a fun action RPG. It also reminded me a lot of Actraiser, perhaps even more than IoG or Terranigma.

Also, 14 SNES RPGs to go.
Haha yeah I think Soul Blazer and Actraiser share a lot of assets, I loved that about them. I grew up on Actraiser, but I'd actually probably take Soul Blazer over it nowadays.

I just finished Trails in the Sky. Darn cliffhanger endings...

Now I have to buy the subsequent Legend of Heroes games. Should I get Trails in the Sky SC on PSP or PC? I'm leaning towards PC.

alright, I'm a couple hours into Witcher 3 now and I am enjoying it. Combat feels so-so to me, but I did feel like a total boss when we took down that Griffin. I've just accepted the quest to try to find Ciri.

I booted up the first Gothic last night after a bit of finagling with graphics options in the .ini file. Now it works. Unfortunately though it has problems with saving controls, so every time I try to modify the controls to something closer to my liking, it ends up completely rewriting things in really awkward ways, with buttons getting assigned to multiple tasks despite not having been assigned to either beforehand and the like. I may have to do some digging to see if others had to deal with this problem.

I hope you get it working Ack. I've been interested in Gothic for quite a while*, your opinions on it would be valuable.

*I own all four games.
PLAY KING'S FIELD.

Apparently there is a thread on the GOG forum that has a bunch of mods and fan patches to make things run much more smoothly. I may check these out.

In the meantime, with Slave Zero done, it's back to the drawing board on what to play next. I know I'll play an RPG, but with so many options...heh, well, you guys all know what I mean.

I've heard a lot of good things about the Gothic games. They do look pretty cool.
