Bingo!

Thank you for this too.

Well sorry.

Maybe next year I won't bother to count them up and we can spend even longer going back and forth because we have no idea which suggestions were the most popular.

I apologize for the tone AJ, but at the same time, that isn't what I meant.

The nomination counts have always been important, especially when they actually lead to the polls for a final decision, as opposed to leaving it up to one person to make a choice for all.

The thread was beginning to head in the latter direction, and I was uncomfortable with that.

Believe me, I appreciate the work you put in to monitoring this thread.

I can understand how you feel AJ. I appreciated what you did to keep everything organized. Some of us spent a lot of time in this thread voting and thinking the games would be decided here before the declaration that all votes were null and void and I felt it was really a wasted effort that ate up a lot of time, not to mention AJ's hard work in keeping that spreadsheet up.

I would have a suggestion for next year's nomination process, then.

Since the genre threads and polls seem to be drawing a lot more people in to vote, more than I expected (over 20 votes in each), after we nominate, discuss, and determine the best genres, then we should go and make polls and threads for each genre after we work all of that out. It will save us a lot of time and effort for sure in the long run.

Just my 2 cents. That's all I'm going to say about it, time to move on and may the best games be picked for 2014.

How about we go back to the way things went when we first started?

You guys make a few suggestions, and then Racket, Fastbilly, a couple of other mods, and I all take your suggestions, get really drunk, have a fist fight, play Street Fighter Alpha 2, watch Jesus Christ Vampire Hunter, play Dungeons & Dragons for a few hours, and then spend the rest of the day doing as little as possible.

And then we present you guys with the list for the next year.

Sounds perfect! :D

If numbers are meaningless, then why all the games that are currently being voted on are the ones that got the most votes?
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

Those nominations generated the most discussion in the...wait for it: Together Retro 2014 Nominations and Discussion Thread

If you can't understand how this wasn't a legitimate voting thread...I can't help you. At one point Pierrot said something to the effect, "I like all of Mike's picks". All 9 games I had suggested then got a "vote" in the tallies. Is that a legitimate vote?

At one point to try to point out the silliness of it all I was randomly +1'ing games that were supposedly in competition with each other - no one said anything. If there is no limit to what you can vote for, again, is it a legitimate vote?

Most importantly, since this never was a voting thread...most members weren't voting. This is clearly evidenced as the actual voting polls have generated more total votes for individual games in 24 hours then were generated in 40+ pages. Wake up guy.

F-zero generated this much discussion

I could get behind this.
Deus Ex generated multiple pages full of discussion.

I think there has been more discussion in this thread about a game than on some TR monthly posts.

As one who was vocal on this thread, I first want to apologize if I offended anyone. I am glad that the data on who liked what (especially the spreadsheet) was kept. And for all of those who keep the discussion going and recorded it - Thank you.

I don't mind voting, but I do think in the end those who run the site (not us members and mods) will choose and our voices will be considered.

We all came to this site because of the knowledge of those who run the site and as members we are all heard and made this site awesome, so lets let our voices be heard and those people who make the decisions will hear them and then make their decisions.

Again, the strength and commitment of this community is awesome. I only hope that we can get as much debate and discussion that we have had about what game to play when we are all playing a game. If we can it will be the most successful year of TR ever.

I see absolutely no issue with this. If you like two games in the same genre, why shouldn't you be able to support both?

I liked both Psychonauts and Ape Escape, and I gave them both my support. When it came down to deciding between the two, I had to go one way or the other, but had they not gotten similar numbers of votes it would've been crap to get neither because I voted for the less popular option. Why shouldn't I support all of the games I think are good options? The idea is to play games that lots of people will participate in, so we should be able to find out all the games people want to play, even if they're mutually exclusive.
