Haha it's been many RPGs that do that as I get older, it doesn't help that I go at it after my day and ready to chill. Long ago when it came out Inhad a friend tell me it was the greatest game he's ever read, so falling asleep doesn't seem too far fetched. Lol

I will admit, don't feel bad if you skip those audio novel poem things. They were really cool... but wow, they literally go on for like 10 minutes at a time or more it felt like. I stopped listening to them after awhile and felt more energized for the rest of the game. lol

Thanks for the tip, I will say it's looking like a rock solid RPG especially for the old school turn based fans, also the whole package seems like a must play, must own.

A pretty easy way to play ePSXe in a portable fashion is actually its Android port. The port comes preconfigured, no setup required, and runs well on any modern smartphone:

https://play.google.com/store/apps/deta ... PSXe&hl=en

It's a great way to play PS1 turn based RPGs and SRPGs, as well as visual novel or adventure games. Can't really recommend it for real time action stuff unless you hook up a bluetooth controller.
Kuruwin wrote:I'm interested trying Shadow Tower at one point and i was wondering how long exactly does it take to get to the blacksmith. I heard that the game is pain in the ass before that.
You'll find your first blacksmith within 2-3 hours of playing it. If Shadow Tower doesn't hook you in the first 3 hours, it never will. I really enjoyed it, but even I can admit it's a hard game to get started in. Give it a shot though, you might just love it.

----

Dragon Quest IX
I just reached Coffinwell. I'm trying to stick with it. There really are a lot of things different about DQIX versus traditional Dragon Quests before it, and those things are aggravating me. The last three times I played DQIX I fell asleep. Literally, fell asleep. I'm trying to hold on long enough for this game to hook me, so I can understand the fervor people have for it. But man, compared to DQIV(DS) or DQVIII... meh city thus far. It's just so damn... casualized.

The 7th Saga
No problem staying awake here. Recently cleared the graveyard dungeon of Patrof, then stormed the castle and destroyed the "apprentice", netting me the Star Rune. I'm now trying to find the town of "Bone". (I'm guessing it's in Maine.) Also, Wilme Pelin recently stepped to me with some static. I caved his skull in and ze carrot muscle man is no more. I'm still rocking it solo with Lejes. Gotta stay true to his in game quote; "I don't work with anyone." Loving this game so far.

Also been really impressed with the SNES9X Android port. It's straight up perfect for playing these old RPGs in a portable fashion. I figure other emulators will be on point as well, so I went ahead and upgraded my phone to a Droid Turbo 2. I think that should cover the gamut sufficiently.

And i advice not to skip them. The poems are one of the highlights of the game and you should not skip them.

I do support PSN releases of classic games from time to time but Sony doesn't make it easy to me to want to do that. Mainly because i prefer to play them on the Vita TV but Sony has that ass backwards policy of letting you use only one account per Vita device. It's a chore to switch between account's so i don't really like doing it.

For that reason i'm been putting off playing games like Chrono Cross, Legend Of Mana and Legend Of Dragoon that are on my USA account.

And you might ask why i don't just play them on my PS3. Well the reason for that is that the feature that speeds up disc loading actually make's a huge difference with some games and PS3 does not have that feature.

And if i pay for PSN release i'm not going to play it on the PSP.

Also it's rare to get discounts on most of the PS1 classics. Shadow Tower was on sale for couple of dollars at one point but i couldn't really get it at the time. Personally i think these games should always be only couple of dollars/euro's. You can get classic WRGP's like Arcanum from GOG for 2-3 euros all the time so i'm not fine with 10 dollar pricetags for PSN versions.

Anyways. I did just beat King's Field this morning and i haven't decided yet what i'm going to tackle next. I have played several PS1 JRPG's in a row now but i think i'm still up for more. The fantranslated Langrisser game seems like the most appealing choice.
Xeogred wrote:Does this irk anyone else? haha. I mean, I've completely given up and don't really care when it comes to cartridges, but with PSX games it bugs me a lot nowadays and I kind of want to buy them again to get them complete.
I don't really mind too much if a game does not have manual eventhough there's sometimes interesting info on them but inlays have to always be on a really good condition or i won't buy a copy. I'm that way in general but especially with RPG's. There can be damage on the inlay but it has to be the sort that you don't see unless you looking for it. Inlay having the sort of damage that makes the "white paper part" under the art stick out is big no,no for me.

Fantastic. You should post about it in the "Games Beaten" thread in the main gaming forum. Folks around here generally post their accomplishments there, as well as provide a small review (or just personal thoughts) on the experience. I'd be interested in your take on King's Field (or rather King's Field II).

I tend to prefer the PS3's smoothing option over the PS2 for PS1 games. Though I don't always use it. Never really bothered with disc loading speeds, they don't bug me. I also remember PS2 slims having a very peculiar issue with the Omen (?) boss fight with Xenogears near the end, it's basically sheer luck to get through it without the game freezing. I managed it, but I'll probably replay the digital version on the PS3 next time. lol

I only tend to buy incomplete PS1/PS2/etc games if they're really cheap, so I have almost no RPGs like that. Wild Arms I do, but that's because when I ordered Deception III from I think Goodwill (via Amazon), they shipped me a pristine Wild Arms disc in the case instead, and then never responded to my support request. :?

As for what I'm playing...I started on Dark Souls III over the weekend. Went with the PS4 version since the console ones seem to have gotten a price drop, and I could still get the Day One edition locally for the same price (includes a soundtrack CD). Didn't think to check about how bad the performance difference might be compared to the PC version, since Scholar the First Sin wasn't -as- good, but was close.
This...this 30fps, at best, when my PC would be able to do 60fps. :| Hopefully it won't have any massive frame rate drop areas like the PS3/360 series entries do.

Either way, pushed through past the ginormous skeleton boss. Finally came out to a snowy city area, and found a comment on the ground saying I needed a doll to proceed. Chuckled and took a screenshot, assuming it was someone referencing the Painted World...and no. I really do need a doll to proceed. I still killed the furry crocodile/baby Gaping Dragon that attacked me.

Backtracked, found my way down to what was (I assume) Ash Lake and/or Lost Izaleth, killing a couple minor "bosses" on the way, and then the Old Demon King. Still no doll. I think I need to go back to the f'ing swamp for it.

They were not kidding when they said that DS3 is basically an amalgamation of all the previous Soulsborne games. Not a whole lot truly new things yet, but it does seem to cherry pick the best bits.
