I'm glad you got that kind of mileage out of it. But I'm in it for the main quest, that's it. I know there's a lot of meta / optional stuff to lose yourself in for countless hours, but I'm not normally into that sort of thing.prfsnl_gmr wrote:Just wait until you are 120 hours in, you have reset your characters' jobs multiple times so that their stats are through the roof, and you are still struggling to take down Dracolord from Dragon Warrior and Baramos from Dragon Quest III. It's awesome!

The main quest is fine and really fun, and you can complete it in 50 hours of so. The game is just so big, however, and there is a lot of really cool post-game content to explore once you wrap up the main quest (and before you get to the MMO-inspired/semi-randomly-generated content).Exhuminator wrote:I'm glad you got that kind of mileage out of it. Re: RPG Progress Report
I'm still chugging on through Persona 4 Golden. I'm nearing the end I think. Just by the boss of the heaven dungeon, who wiped me out in short order. Some googling suggests I could be about 10 levels lower than most people when they get to this point, despite me fighting every enemy I spot and exploring each floor thoroughly. I have a strategy in mind though!
The boss uses a move which changes one element to be super powerful. I plan to guard a lot and make use of magic barrier items/ moves to reflect his superpowers spells back at him. I also plan to try and fuse a persona that is immune or reflects each element so I can just play it defensively instead

Dragon Quest IX was one of the more disappointing entries to me. It gets better, but I don't like the influx of MMORPG elements.
Re: RPG Progress Report
It ends up being somewhat of a fusion of DQ3 and DQ7. You've got the party building and customization of DQ3 and the mass of stand alone stories that are all tied to the eventual big bad of DQ7.

Re: RPG Progress Report
Kinda wanna play a Tales game next. Trying to decide between Tales of Xillia which I already have for mah PS3, or picking up one of the much older ones on PSN because I still have some PSN $ sitting around. Tales of Symphonia didn't really have the depth that I enjoyed from Tales of Vesperia though, so I'm somewhat hesitant on going for something like Tales of Destiny or one of the older ones.
Any other Tales fans here that can give me an opinion on if I should try more older ones or just stick to the newer ones?

What depth was missing from Symphonia that you did find in Vesperia? Because I'd rank them about equal in a lot of ways.
Destiny is very much a 16-bit RPG on the PlayStation. Graphically it's a minor upgrade on Phantasia and the story was actually one of the more straightforward of the Tales games as I recall; not much in the way of moral ambiguity. Eternia/Destiny II (not to be confused with the story sequel to Destiny) is when they started to flex the muscle a more powerful machine gives them, but I'm not very far into it, so I can't comment on it much.

I loved Symphonia. I struggled to finish Vesperia. As far as that series goes, Symphonia and Abyss are my favorites.
