Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
I actually didn't realize the Nuon had "real" games. Meaning, I assumed all of the games for it were basically like the laserdisc (Dragon's Lair, etc) kind of stuff that has been released on DVD's since.

You would literally just look for a DVD player with a small Nuon logo on it. That's what makes me wonder how many are hiding at thrift stores.samsonlonghair wrote:I honestly don't think I'd recognize a nuon DVD player if I saw it.
And dudes, there's a controller!
Interestingly enough, there are actually Nuon machines by several manufacturers: Samsung, Toshiba, RCA, and Motorola. Kind of reminiscent of the 3DO where there were Panasonic, Goldstar, and Sanyo variants.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
It seems there's multiple controllers. Some look like generic N64 controllers; others look like generic Sega Saturn (or MS Sidewinder) controllers.

This is why I'm not sure I could recognize a nuon DVD player in the wild.

Not so much. Some nuon DVD players have the logo; Others don't.BoneSnapDeez wrote:You would literally just look for a DVD player with a small Nuon logo on it.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Did you ever saw a chinese DVD player with a NES emulator on a disc? Sounds like they're almost the same thing.BoneSnapDeez wrote:Anyone ever play a Nuon system? Pretty interesting. Instead of a game console that also plays DVDs (like a PS2) it's more like a DVD player that also plays games. Well eight games anyway.![]()

Interesting. I wonder if all Nuon players mention it in the "fine print" on the back. I'm also curious to know what the controller port looks like.samsonlonghair wrote: Not so much. Some nuon DVD players have the logo; Others don't.

Anyway, I'll try to assemble a list of any and all models to I can scope out the thrift store inventory.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
So I finally started playing this yesterday and it quickly sucked me in with the fun mechanic and charm you mentioned here. In about 3.5 hours, I'd collected 16 cubes! Yay! Time to go through the last door!noiseredux wrote:we don't have a Fez thread? Weird.
It's 50% on Steam this week, so I'm finally playing. I really loved Indie Game The Movie, so it's great to finally get to play this one. I have to say, this is genuinely a game that's just making me smile. Like the first time I played Little Big Planet, this is just so charming. I mean, when you first go in 3D and the game resets? Awesome. Or the first moment when turning the world was advantageous. Just so awesome.
At which point I was met with news that I would, indeed, need 32 cubes. I'd have to go back through the same areas to get them
I'm not sure if the charm is enough to make me persevere to 32 cubes (I have like 18 now?). As best I can tell, the vast majority of the ones I need are these "anti-cubes" which require you to do some more complicated puzzle platforming with more precise jumping to get to the out of the way areas where they are located (also usually behind a puzzle), which isn't my idea of fun in this game...

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
Dave, when I first started playing Fez I loved the charm of it. But after a couple of hours it stopped feeling as charming and started to feel more frustrating to me. I never did beat it.
Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
It wasn't frustrating getting to what I thought was the ending, but as I've started to go back and look for the other cubes I've seen that many of them are hiding in frustrating areas. I 'm not ready to call it a day yet, but it came as a bit of a slap in the face in what had otherwise been a very fun game.noiseredux wrote:Dave, when I first started playing Fez I loved the charm of it. That guy who made Fez seems so douchey that it honestly makes me not want to play the game.
