Do You Have Any Unpopular Gaming Opinions?

I'll eventually play Undertale, but I too must profess some annoyance at some corners of the fan base. I'll promote games I love to be sure, but in some cases it comes with a sort of off-putting religious fervor. I'm keeping an open mind, but I don't expect it to blow my socks off or anything. To be honest, very, very few games have achieved that response from me.

Long story short, don't trumpet games as if they're the Second Coming.

If I'm being completely honest the fan reaction and people pestering me to play a game in a genre they knew I wasn't fond of did color my reaction to the game more so than if I would have just picked it up blind. I was going into it with negative feelings.

It must be what normal people feel like when I tell them they need to play Wing Commander 2.

Maybe this is why all of my friends hate Earth Defense Force and House of the Dead...

Could be. That's why I'll heartily recommend games, but I won't blow them up to be larger than they are. I mean, maybe I have different expectations about how good a game actually is in the grand scheme of things. I also worry that folks won't like my recommendations, so I do dial it back a bit.

Surely I can't be the only one that feels some measure of annoyance with overbearing recommendations. And that certainly extends outside of gaming. I'm wary of anything that has been trumpeted a bit too loudly, at least if I'm not already familiar with it. I've been burned too many times before, so I already take things with a significant grain of salt, and a realization that my tastes aren't going to be symmetrical with many others.

I mean, for goodness sake, I beat Black Sigil and actually enjoyed it. (Actually, that might be my Undertale, although I always point out the flaws, so maybe not quite. I certainly bring it up a lot, though.)

I probably also know how folks might feel when Chrono Trigger gets recommended constantly. But that's legit.

No, I always think "I'll get to it someday..." But the list of things to try out someday is pretty long, so pardon if it takes me a while. I'll get there eventually. When I'm 60.

As much as I fervently worship enjoy King's Field games, I know deep down that most people just aren't going to like them. It's kind of a running gag for myself to try and get people to give the series a shot. That said it's only the GREATEST DUNGEON CRAWLING SERIES EVER MADE but it's not a big deal or anything.

I'll get there eventually. When I'm 60.
