yaaay Nintendo you are almost there when it comes to bare bones online shop functionality
Ugh, I was just thinking this. It's funny that the article mentioned Another World because I just recently purchased it on the Wii U. On Saturday I was playing my 3DS and thinking, "Wow, that'd be cool to have it on the 3DS too."

Nintendo really needs to get on this. I'd be likely to buy many more VC games if I knew I could play them on both consoles.

Am I the only one who does not see NGC as an "upsetting" console? Its not a ps2, but it sold just as much as oXbox. No one is looking down at the oXbox

My point is, if Wii U reaches 20m something I wouldn't consider it a "bad selling console". 10m and less is a bad selling console.

The only rare case was the Neo Geo which sold less than 1m but is highly praised by fans and I am not sure if it made money for SNK but it had like 10 years life-time.

I think the GameCube is generally well respected by most and Nintendo made profits from it AFAIK. It had a pretty good ratio of software sales for it too. It just wasn't the colossal mainstream success the PS2 was, clearly.

Gamecube is looked down upon often as it was when Nintendo really started to lose 3rd party support.

Gamecube's respect has only been achieved fairly recently. When it was current, people were pretty sour on it.

Let's talk 3rd Party support. Is it even possible for a Nintendo console to get strong 3rd party support? They can with handhelds, simply because the diversity of competition is scarce. You have the PSP, which already seems to be given up on by Sony, sadly. On consoles, it is a different story. Think about the majority of exclusive 3rd party games on the last generation of systems.

There isn't many and with Nintendo's unique hardware, that is an obstacle. They want to have the same game, presented in the same way across all platforms uniformly. If there is extra work involved, it is a deterrent.

They used to. It actually started with the N64 and the decision to use carts. It then really carried over to the GC. This is when the complaints for general lack of 3rd party support surfaced. They were also notoriously difficult to work with.

Despite the many factors that led to this, many soured on the GC because of the lack of support.

The N64 definitely set the tone tremendously for the Gamecube. The complaints about lack of third party support as well as the kiddie image were really carry-overs from it.

However, you could argue that the Gamecube had more 3rd party support since it had more games. The Gamecube had almost double what the N64 saw in its lifetime.
