What was the last movie you've seen?
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
I watched The Big Sleep over the weekend. Man, I love a good Phillip Marlowe movie.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
I watched Hercules with Steve Reeves. They don't make movies like this anymore.

* X-Men Origins: Wolverine - FINALLY A REAL X-MEN FILM. Those last three films didn't feel like REAL X-Men-based works, like the video games and the animated series, the latter of which should have been the basis for the films.
* The Uninvited - AWESOME!
* Ghost Ship - pretty sweet. Also, BOTH that and the other film had actress Emily Browning.
* The Spirit - better than ppl said, but it mostly felt more like an aesthetic display than a film. With a more focused attention on the story, it could have actually worked as both a look AND a story.
* The Invisible - Good story, but that's about it.
* Crime and Punishment in Suburbia - good film about bad things. And Vincent Kartheiser playing a character whose name is the same as the actor playing him.
Also, recently scored the Back to the Future trilogy DVD boxset (the Canadian release, but still NTSC R1) for only $2 at The Hotline thrift store. So I paid the same price as I did for that old VHS of ID4.
Oh, yeah.
Several weeks ago, I finally saw Independence Day. WHY DID I WAIT SOFA KING LONG TO SEE THIS?

Hardbodies. Thursday nights at the UCB we watch cheesy bad 80s movies. That's one of the best.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
@RepoMan - so I checked out "Repo-The Genetic Opera" last night... finally I guess you could say.
My brother came in and he's all like, "Dude they're making a movie with Ogre and Paris Hilton in it and..." (he's a big SP and Ohgr fan)
"umm, genetic opera per chance?"
"Hey, how'd you know?"
"Cause it's been out for quite some time momo."
Well his bringing it up reminded me, I'm bored, let's watch it for once.
Seeing as your siggy blasts in my face so often... I'll give you my reaction:
1) plot/storyline - I like it pretty much. Pretty cool dark future kinda stuff
2) opera bit - now this part suprised me. It's ACTUALLY an opera! Like it actually follows a lot of the traditions of an opera. The archetypal story line; villainess man seeking revenge for a lost love, the lost anti-hero disparaged by the demise of his love, the tragic woman held in bondage by beforemenched men, fat woman sings, etc.
This actually made me a very happy man. I love musicals! Call me a fag, but I watch any musical that comes my way of any genre of musical (opera included). I don't like all of them, but I love a lot of them. I also love romantic comedies, chic flicks, and those drams that make you ball your eyes out. Yeah... I'm gay. I'm gonna go watch "Jesus Christ Super-Star" now... FUCK YOU.
3) The music though. I enjoyed it for the most part. But the songs weren't memorable at all. For instance, take the musical "Rocky Horror Picture Show". Now I HATE Rocky... HATE! But the songs are memorable: Hot-Patootie, Time Warp, etc... come on. But this just wasn't memorable. The opening song about being a grave robber was good and all. And I loved Rottie's singing... but other then that I was unimpressed.
Especially with Ogre! WTF???? First off his character's voice was really annoying and did not mesh into song very well. Next he was stock along side the character who is his brother in the story, who just could NOT sing. I wanted to pull my eyes out every time the guy sang, then you put Ogre next to him with that really annoying voice, and I wanted to fast forward through all their scenes.
Then the surprise. I actually liked Paris Hilton in it. WHAT!? Her songs were actually pretty catchy and interesting... very whorish, but fun. There were hardly ANY though. Especially her last song there, where her face falls off. It kicks in and I'm like "YES, wow, this actually sounds like some quality industrial coming my way! And Hilton is doing it??? Weird, I'm excited!" Then 5 seconds into the damn song its over! WTF!?
Back at Rottie though, like I said this character I was actually impressed by (the lead villain in an opera aught to be!). And I was very pleased he had so many parts. He fit the "style" of music very well and all his songs were great. Not memorable (as I already brought up), but fanatastic. If it weren't for him I probably wouldn't have finished the film.
4) Costumes - ok... it took me a LONG time to watch this movie due to the costumes alone. I hate goth! HATE IT! Now I have to explain, I LOVE industrial. If you looked through my collection you'd see what would be considered a lot of goth: Skinny Puppy, Ohgr, Frontline Assembly, Front 242, Apoptygma Berzerk, any of Cevin Key's side projects, Combichrist, Lola Angst, Funkey Vogt, Thrill Kill Kult, Haujobb, Wumpscut, VNV, the list goes on for ever.
But I HATE!!!! Goth. Can't stand the fashion what so ever. I'm sorry, it may sound shallow. But the fat ugly bitches running around in these tight pleather and chains, fat oozing out of every seem, hair the size of the empire state building. EW. Then the 7 foot tall guys with receeding hair lines who can't figure out how to bath. They wear the same leather pants and trench coat EVERY DAY. EW. Yeah this is the stereotype of them, and they aren't all like this... but my God a lot of them are!
Voltaire played at a local club here Friday, every one came out after the NIN-JA show. My friend the manager has all kinds of goth/industrial bands play a lot. Some good bands come through, Funker Vogt just played last month. But I can't bring myself to pay to go to these shows. I've told Paul (the manager) I will NOT pay to see these shows because I won't shell out the 10 or 20 bucks to stand next to these fucking assholes. It just ruins the experience... I'd rather sit in my room and blast the album and write some code.
But I'm getting off topic here. So the costumes of the movie were really turning me off. Thankfully though once I got into the movie the costumes started to redeem themselves. Now there were quite a few I hated. The whores for instance, oh my God... fish net is UGLY! Get it through your fucking heads, fish net is called fish net because you NET FISH WITH IT! Do you want to be a fish? Cause when I see fish net, I instantly say to myself:
"I ain't eating that girl out... gross!"
But like Ogre's outfits and make-up. Sweet. Rottie's, conservative awesome. Repo-man himself, I hated at first, but it grew on me when I watched the film. I liked it... it fits the atmosphere.
5) Sets, Scenes - ok this here was awesome! I love dark bleak futurisitic landscapes. I just have an affinity for them. Pretty cool stuff there.
In the end, I'll watch it again. Maybe the songs will grow on me more. I won't really be telling any of my friends to try it though. My brother of course, he already wants to see it. But other then that, no. I think the single fact of "suggesting" the film will get someone's hopes up to high for the film.

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Rosemary's Baby. Is it me or do horror movies rely on waif women to draw out empathy from the audience? it wasn't really scary to me- it was just an annoying ride of "Let's fuck with this girl as much as possible," and she can't get out of it cuz she's naive and pregnant... I dunno. Maybe I've got too much guts to settle for a film like that- I would've stabbed the husband long ago for the "baby/rape night."

Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Oh, yeah. Another two films I saw that completely slipped my mind:
* Terror Toons - umm... ohh-kaaaay!
* Terror Toons 2 - a bit better, but still a rental at best.
