What does that answer?

Ack, RE7 does very little to tie into the others at all. Which is unfortunate to me. It's very stand alone.

It is both of those things. It takes place long after RE6 and the big draw is that we know very little about how the world has changed in contrast to this tight intimate experience... but it eludes and you definitely know that future titles will elaborate

Like Bogus said, it's part of the established Resident Evil universe and has subtle tie-ins with the established timeline, but it's very much a self-contained story. If you've played the previous games, bits and pieces will tie in with the story of the game. If you haven't played an older Resident Evil games, then you're not going to miss anything really with the story.

Good to know, because let's face it, the RE universe had turned into a giant clusterfuck. I'm glad they're taking a step back.

They need to release a "Resident Evil Official Timeline - Not Fucked Up Edition" book and set everything straight and start going forward with rational and well explained additions from there.

RE is best when it's a confined story and location, but I wish this one didn't steer left as hard as it did. Ethan is basically a lifeless cardboard box. There's still some amazing characters to work with and I wish Capcom would stop trying to pile up more new ones. Jill, Chris, Leon, Ada, Claire, and a few others are enough as is and we could get some amazing teams with that roster, but instead they keep feeding us new lame characters.

But yeah the one big issue with RE6 is how it takes place like all over the planet and was basically a global danger. It went way too over the top.

I'd love for another game with RE7's perspective and gameplay, but I hope they bring back some of the classic characters. Otherwise, I think a reboot would maybe be a better route to make it more...acceptable to handle new directions I guess.

Also, considering how crazy the bio sciences and shit is in RE, I think they should just say screw it and bring back Wesker. I would not complain at all.

from Destructoid:
Since basically every other Resident Evil is coming to PS4 and Xbox One (where are the Outbreak games?!), Code Veronica may as well join them. It was recently rated for the German USK on PS4, but since all of them have hit Xbox One as well it's only a matter of time if this rating is accurate -- and it'll probably be the Code Veronica X HD version from 2011.
