Is the version of Sonic CD that came out fairly recently on consoles and mobile not available on Windows?
Many would consider it the best version of the game all around.

It's on Steam and it's pretty cheap (I saw it at ~$2.50 once).AppleQueso wrote:Is the version of Sonic CD that came out fairly recently on consoles and mobile not available on Windows?
Sure it has widescreen and both soundtracks, but it doesn't have that Big Box.Many would consider it the best version of the game all around.

It'll be my first crack at Zelda but If I don't end up liking it I could always end up getting my money back as Zelda games don't lose value often. How long is the main story?Zing wrote:If you enjoy exploring and making your own map, as I do, it is extremely enjoyable. That patch was designed to make Sonic CD compatible with Windows XP, which is old enough now that you can't even rely on programs native to it to work on Win7/8.BoneSnapDeez wrote:I tried that patch. Game boots, but crashes at level one.I'll just try an older computer.
Meh. The SCD version has the most slowdown. I recommend the HD version that's on Steam.Stark wrote:That older computer is called a Sega CD. Works every time.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
the Steam version of SCD is great. Yeah.
The Win95 version is pretty infamous for its difficulty to get running nowadays. Although I feel you on the box, Bone. It's hard not to scoop up cool old PC games when you find them complete and cheap. Heck, I've got an awesome Counter Strike Source DVD box displayed because I found it for $2... of course the Steam key was used already. :\
So slightly on this topic, I had put one of those USB 3.5" disk drives on my xmas list because there's a lot of cool DOS games I wouldn't mind having physical copies of. But then I recently got to thinking... do they have a similar USB drive for 5.25" disks?

I have a USB 3.5" floppy drive. The construction feels kind of cheap. It serves its purpose if you need to recover an old word perfect doc off of an ancient floppy disk. It might be cheaper finding an old computer.noiseredux wrote:So slightly on this topic, I had put one of those USB 3.5" disk drives on my xmas list because there's a lot of cool DOS games I wouldn't mind having physical copies of.
I never saw a USB external drive for 5.25" floppies, but I once saw an external 5.25" drive that connected to the Parallel port.noiseredux wrote:But then I recently got to thinking... do they have a similar USB drive for 5.25" disks?
Once again, you're probably better off getting an old PC. If you ask around, someone probably has one he wants to give away for free.

Re: Random Gaming Thoughts
those 3.5" USB drives are like $10, $20. And they take up a tiny bit of room. I already have a desktop and laptop setup on my desk in my gameroom, and another PC hooked up to the TV in there... so it wouldn't really be ideal for my to find space for a fourth computer in that room

MGS isn't as difficult as I remembered, but I guess it doesn't hurt that I've beaten the game several times before.
