Some cheap (sub-$10) Super Famicom RPGs I would recommend are Emerald Dragon, Der Langrisser, Brandish 2, Bahamut Lagoon, Final Fantasy V, Dragon Quest V, Dragon Quest VI, Legend of Heroes, Legend of Heroes II, Front Mission, Mystic Ark, Wonder Project J, and Xak: The Art of Visual Stage.
Oooo! Me gon' get a whoooole bunch of dems :I
I'm not taking a Japanese class over the summer, so I was looking for some new text-heavy games to use to keep up my reading practice. Despite how much of a butt-head Enix is about releasing their older games on VC, bunch of those are actually on Japan's Wii Virtual Console :D. Thank you so much, Boney Sensei :3

While on the subject of SFC RPG's, does anyone know anything about Dark Kingdom? I came across a listing for it the other day and the concept of it certainly sounds cool, but I can't find much in terms of recommendations for or against it.

That sounds about right for level 1 AD&D. That game system is incredibly rough in the beginning but a couple of levels fixes that right up.

What class are you? There's a good portion of classes that are either heavily unsuited for the early game, or laughably badly paced: Gotta love AD&D!

I love playing as the evil overlord, but his combat sequences are tedious and boring. His companions are AI scripted for no reason at all. I have full control over the "hero's" party but I don't give a crap about his half of the game. :/
As someone who loves an excuse to import a cheap SFC game, would this mean you don't recommend Dark Half?
Not yet, but I want to play through more of it before I finalize my opinion. Then I'll do a formal review video.

Though I plan on starting Lufia this week I will still continue to pick away at PSOBB. It's a game well-suited for play in short little snippets, so I won't have a difficult time juggling this one plus one other RPG.

I've beaten the boss of the mines, but still have some mines government quests to wrap up. These need to be completed for the ruins quests to show up. I'm about thirty hours in.

What class is your main? Did you pick up any party members besides Imoen? That fight before Friendly Arm Inn is notorious. Might be one of the hardest in the game based on your low level. So much of combat and rolling a good character is in understanding 2nd ed D&D. You should be splattering the goblins though.

While playing Hyperdimension Neptunia Re;Birth1 on Vita, I discovered there's a character named Falcom who's basically Adol as a girl. Stuff like that makes this game worth playing for me, more so than the mild ecchi factor. I've only got four hours in it thus far, but I've enjoyed nearly every minute in. I'm happy to report that the difficulty level has not been a cakewalk as I expected it to be, and you definitely have to stay on top of the subsystems and min-max to keep the competitive edge. Or I guess you could grind a whole lot but who wants to do that.

Once Ack stopped following his own rules, I figured I'd do the same.

It will be my next PSP game though, next time I get around to PSP-ing. Already installed and ready to go.
