Re: RPG Progress Report
Anyone else playing through or has played through the Bravely Second demo? I'm juggling that and Twilight Princess Picross for my "lying in bed before going to sleep" game (decided to take a break for Fire Emblem for a bit before I finish Revelations so I don't get burnt out too quickly).

I just finished the Aimee fight, and probably would have finished a while ago but I was letting it sleep while I let the town build (you get a bonus if you fully upgrade everything). I like the change to the bonuses; instead of getting a bonus for now damage or killing on the first turn you instead get to chain fights if you one round the enemies and you don't get your BP reset. So there's a real risk/reward to it while at the same time it lowers grind time if you're going for JP.ElkinFencer10 wrote:Anyone else playing through or has played through the Bravely Second demo? Oh dang, I totally forgot about the town. Guess I'll be putting that on hold for a few days while that builds.MrPopo wrote:I just finished the Aimee fight, and probably would have finished a while ago but I was letting it sleep while I let the town build (you get a bonus if you fully upgrade everything). I am crawling through Dark Half. It's as if half the game has an great story hook with terrible gameplay. And the other half is a generic but enjoyable game mechanically.
I love playing as the evil overlord, but his combat sequences are tedious and boring. His companions are AI scripted for no reason at all. I have full control over the "hero's" party but I don't give a crap about his half of the game. :/

Re: RPG Progress Report
while Spring cleaning, I got intrigued by some old floppy disks I had around. So I loaded up one that said "RM3" on the label. Turns out it's a game called Robomaze III that I apparently downloaded in 1991.

I'm in the home stretch of Terra Phantastica, but it will probably be another ten hours or so of gameplay. Alexis has grown up quite a bit--I'm a bit curious if I managed to do a good job 'raising' him. Diine's backstory is slowly coming to light. Thankfully, she finally ranked up, and got that precious bonus AP. Now part of a coalition force that includes Barbara. Never thought I'd see the day. She's been a real thorn in my side until now.
The battles are getting a bit more involved, and taking significantly more time to complete, at this point. Part of that is me decimating the opposition, rather than just taking out the target general, by flying Koko and Jeanne in for a quick kill. Although, I did resort to that in the last battle of Chapter 8, because I don't know how long it would have actually taken me to get through it, playing it straight, but I sure as hell didn't want to find out. There doesn't really seem to be much of a downside to clearing maps that way, either, since there's an exp bonus in the 8000s for clearing in a couple turns, as opposed to about 3000 for eight or more turns; Killing enemy units is good for one to two hundred exp, and 15 to 20 enemy units is probably the regular amount.
I somehow missed Caroline. She ran off into the wilderness with Darma, I guess. Kind of upsetting, since she's a Sword Master, and probably a good tank. I don't imagine I would have actually used her at all, though. Side note: It's a little weird that Sword Masters are the highly defensive class, while Iron Knights are the highly offensive units. Feels like there's a mistake in there.
I also started playing Baldur's Gate. I was attacked by what I thought was a bear, but I guess was a boar; died. Was set upon by a wolf that came out of nowhere; died. Talked to some old man on the way to the Friendly Arm Inn; miraculously lived! Attacked some hobgoblins; died. Got the quest for killing the hobgoblins; no deaths here. Was approached by some dude in robes as I was trying to enter the inn; died MANY times. Somehow managed to kite that guy out of the way behind a house, and met up with Gorian's friends, then tried attacking the robed man; died. Went back to hunting hobgoblins; somehow died. Killed all the hobgoblins, and got the old lady's ring back; success! I guess I'm heading to the mines now. Not quite sure how I feel about the game.

So I thought Baldur's Gate: Enhanced Edition was just about to be released. Turns out it was released three years ago and it's the expansion pack that's new. LULZ

As someone who loves an excuse to import a cheap SFC game, would this mean you don't recommend Dark Half?Daria wrote:I am crawling through Dark Half. It's as if half the game has an great story hook with terrible gameplay. And the other half is a generic but enjoyable game mechanically.

Re: RPG Progress Report
Oh wow that price is tasty!
Some cheap (sub-$10) Super Famicom RPGs I would recommend are Emerald Dragon, Der Langrisser, Brandish 2, Bahamut Lagoon, Final Fantasy V, Dragon Quest V, Dragon Quest VI, Legend of Heroes, Legend of Heroes II, Front Mission, Mystic Ark, Wonder Project J, and Xak: The Art of Visual Stage.
