Gah why do gamecube component cables still cost so much? Don't they know that the Wii outputs 480p too? Do people just love the GBPlayer that much?
The Hori snes-styled controller is still really pricey too. I want both of these for my Gamecube now that it's been regulated to being a standalone GBPlayer box essentially, but $150-200 is a ridiculous amount of money to pay just to get it up to the video and control standards I'd want for it.
Bah retro gaming. Sometimes it's a really expensive hobby...

What really sucks, beyond the use of a proprietary plug, is that the component plug has a chip in it that converts the signal. So you couldn't even do a simple mod to circumvent the proprietary plug.
That being said, there has to be a way to take the signal coming out of the digital port (YCbCr?) and convert it to YPbPr using your own circuit. You don't even have to worry about the proprietary plug, you can just jump the connections on the motherboard and use whatever kind of standard plug you want to.

That'd be nice. I'd be just as happy with RGB honestly.Ziggy587 wrote:What really sucks, beyond the use of a proprietary plug, is that the component plug has a chip in it that converts the signal. So you couldn't even do a simple mod to circumvent the proprietary plug.

Or alternatively some crazy person could figure out an insane mod to connect a GBPlayer to a Wii.

I wonder how hard it would be to monitor the digital signals. One could use homebrew to display simple test images and slowly figure out what's going one. Here is some info on the port and cable.Ziggy587 wrote: That being said, there has to be a way to take the signal coming out of the digital port (YCbCr?) and convert it to YPbPr using your own circuit. I'd convert it to another digital format like DVI. That would be pretty rad. Digital video and digital audio.

Pretty sickening to think that Wikipedia and the years it spent building content could be gone forever in 2 hours.

Oh. A friend explained it to me. That's what I get for not doing my research I suppose. If it's only one day it seems like a kind of pointless protest act, that isn't going to have much of an effect.
