I've been meaning to try out Atelier sometime. I have that 3-pack they did for PS3 a while back, but I hasn't jumped into it as of yet.

I ordered some thinguses off of Play-Asia this morning. Whenever there's a multiple of $60-ish of things I like which are discounted, I snap 'em right up:

Rhythm Tenkoku The Best + (3DS)
Ukiyo no Shishi (PS3)
Tales of the Heroes: Twin Brave (PSP)

As soon as I saw that Twin Brave was basically Tales series Dynasty Warriors, I HAD to have it Xp

My inner weeb got loose today and picked these up on PC:

It's interesting how many JRPGs see PC release in tandem with PS4 these days.

I've actually heard Nights of Azure is pretty good. I'll probably end up buying it eventually.

PC releases are unsurprising at this point, though, just because of the switch to x86 architecture. I also wonder if a lot of Japanese players have shifted to PCs on top of their shift to mobile/handheld from consoles. Either way, free money on the table there. No reason outside of exclusivity reasons to not put them on PC.

True, also makes me far less likely to buy a PS4 at this point.

I don't think architecture itself has all that much to do with it, since it's not uncommon for there to be a Vita version in the mix too. Plus Sony's consoles run UNIX variants and not Windows.

The larger factor is probably that modern games don't tend to be written from the ground up, and the tools used to make them (I suspect PhyreEngine for the titles mentioned) tend to support more than one platform.

Though, yeah, maybe not free money, but probably a relatively easy route to additional revenue.

Doesn't really impact PS4 to me, since the higher-end first party titles (at least) have shown no signs of being ported.

Aye, but having the underlying architecture being the same means it's easier to port if they do code closer to the metal. Although it's mostly as you say, development tools are much more general-purpose than they used to be.

And yeah, it's not completely free, but it's definitely a low cost associated with it.
