You can also charge it via their micro usb port or whatever it had on it. Plug that into a car and boom you good!Blu wrote:Out of curiosity, what's the battery life on a Nvidia Shield? 4 hours? I bet if they can fine tune a lot of its settings, you could push it to maybe 5-6 hours hey? I think that's the thing that will impede its performance as a handheld. If that battery life is reasonable, 3rd party support is carried through, I think Nintendo likely have a commercial hit on their hands.

Re: NX Predictions Thread
Ive never clocked it going all out with a game but yeah I think 4 or more is a fair guess given what I have pushed it with before just on battery. Like a laptop you can set it under some nvidia sliders much like their video cards on a laptop to be power greedy or not so you can get a range.
Most sane people should not be gaming more than 4 hours in a sitting so I think it would be fine if it ran that long without killing the power of the system in the process to last longer off the ac adapter.

Re: NX Predictions Thread
Another thought I've had... I think this looks awesome, and I'll definitely get it. But, what exactly is this? Is it a home console that you can take on the go? Is it a portable console that you can play on your TV with the docking station? Does this mean that, moving forward, Nintendo will not have distinctly different home consoles and portable consoles? It'll just be one and the same? Not that I have a problem with that.
So judging from the pictures and the trailer, it doesn't look like this thing has an optical drive. If the Switch controller has the same amount of buttons the U Gamepad has, then it wouldn't make sense NOT to have the touch screen and lose out on backward compatibility. They've had touchscreens in their handhelds for a while now, and implemented it into their last home console, so it doesn't seem like something they're moving away from. And it's Nintendo, who have always cared about backwards compatibility. A touch screen would also make it compatible with DS and 3DS games.
If the Switch IS backward compatibly with U games, then that would pretty much only leave digital as an option. Or re-releasing U games on the new card format. Either way would mean having to re-purchase games you already own.
I just remembered, Wii U save files are locked to your console. So even if the Switch is some how backward compatible with U games, you can't transfer your save data. And that thought just made me lose interest in if the Switch is backward compatible with U games.
Ah, cool.MrPopo wrote:One of the views shows that there are two shoulder buttons on each controller like the Wii U's setup.

Re: NX Predictions Thread
I'm going to venture out here with an unpopular opinion and hazard a guess: the Switch won't be backwards compatible. Maybe they'll figure out a pricing model if you had the previous version of the software for Wii U. Perhaps some 3DS backwards compatibility when docked, but how when you pull it off the dock? There's no longer two screens on your portable setup of the Switch, so I think it would likely be on the chopping block for features.
Re: NX Predictions Thread
Years ago Nintendo merged their hardware console and handheld departments into one. The WiiU and 3DS were to be the last of the independent development. Iwata saw the writing on the wall and knew things were changing and Nintendo was with the U screwed. The 3DS isnt going to last much longer unless they keep it around as a cheaper alternative as this is their future, one unified format as they had been claiming.
This takes their console design and their strengths ofa handheld maker to make a handheld with a docking station to use it like a console. Get rid of the baggage and go with what works.
Short of a remaster like say the Zeldas from Gamecubes past I dont see this being BC. Even if it was partly so say with assets theyre using entirely foreign hardware to the old 3x over shit from Gamecube forwards. Youre coming off ATI gfx and IBM PPC chip to the ARM CPUs with Nvidia TegraGPU tech.

Re: NX Predictions Thread
Nintendo stole this concept from the Neo Geo X! I knew that system was awesome!!!
Seriously though, this looks cool. Will buy close to launch. Think we'll see ports of AAA games like The Witcher 3 or Fallout 4? I would love to skip the PS4 and Xbone altogether.

It amuses me that the Nintendo Switch is basically an Nvidia Shield Tablet with a Nintendo sticker on it. But I kinda respect Nintendo for it. I have an Nvidia Shield Portable, love it to pieces, and everyone who sees me playing it says, "Wow, what is that thing?" but it's so niche and most of its potential is wasted. I think Nintendo's pretty clever for deciding to change that.
Re: NX Predictions Thread
Agreed Im on it right now and its my happiest most worthwhile tablet purchase I ever made, so much pwer in a very thin device. Thankful Nintendo got off sucking the ATI/IBM dick for a 4th time too. The fact it is cutting edge supposedly using new tech leans on v2 of the tegra going into the 2nd gen of shield devices. Whether highly or not custom from stock, who knows, but the deelopers of course but Im happy at least for a smart change for once.Anayo wrote:It amuses me that the Nintendo Switch is basically an Nvidia Shield Tablet with a Nintendo sticker on it. Re: NX Predictions Thread
The 3DS/DS backwards compatibility I was so hoping for is looking doubtful, but I'm still hyped as fuuuuuuck! This thing looks awesome, and THANK GOD it doesn't have "Wii" or "DS" ANYWHERE in the title.
I'm also totally fine with this thing being a rip-off of the Shield, because it seems like (at least the impression I have) is that that console/tablet is relatively unknown. If this thing is actually as powerful as the current gen, it seriously stands with the potential to do very well. If it's 350 or less at launch, I'm definitely looking to be an early adopter (though not day-1, because day-1 is for suckers

Re: NX Predictions Thread
Random thought I just had - with the screen of this this being able to be seperated from the controllers, it make for a coolay to play vertical shmups -just seperate off the controllers, rotate the screen and voila , portrait scren ready to bullet hell.
