The outward versus inward theme is very prevalent in shenmue in general. In shenmue, you are in a familiar place. Almost very one knows you and your family and cares about you. You can tell the difference between a native versus and outsider.

Examples of this are characters like the owner of funny bear burgers and snack linda. They aren't from the area so they teat Ryo very differently when he talk to them versus some like mario from bob's pizzeria.

In shenmue II you know Noone and you are a true outsider. The world is harsh in contrast and the feeling of being a small fish in a much larger pond is heavy. It becomes even more substantial when you go to Kowloon.

When you meet shen Hua you really get that sense of inwardness. It is more intimate. Her naiveté and questions really give you a different perspective on the world and it is refreshing and calm. I do feel like when you spend time with her, you as the player will connect with her and open up. It will be interesting. Like seaman but with a teenage girl.... wait.

P.s. I just moved so I posted this with my phone. Any funny mispelling are unintentional. I have giant crab hands

JM: Which was your favorite technology to work on of all the hardware at Sega?

YS: There isn't really a favorite but the hardware we used for Virtua Racing and Virtua Fighter 2 are the most memorable to me -- the Model 1 and Model 2 boards. It was the first hardware capable of 3D graphics, and I was involved in its development from the drawing board. The chip used in the Model 2 came from military equipment from Lockheed Martin, which was formerly General Electric Aerial & Space's textural mapping technology. It cost $2 million dollars to use the chip. It was part of flight-simulation equipment that cost $32 million. I asked how much it would cost to buy just the chip and they came back with $2 million. And I had to take that chip and convert it for video game use, and make the technology available for the consumer at 5,000 yen ($50) per console or else nobody would buy the hardware. But I did it. And because I was able to do that we were able to put textures on the Virtua Fighter 2 characters.
Holy crap. That's a marvel of a feat! I mean Suzuki's accomplishments are many, but this one is something I really didn't know too much about. Great interview!

After months of searching ebay daily, I have finally gotten the watch that Ryo's is based off of! This model of Timex is pretty common...if you want it with a white dial, the black version that matches Ryo's is super rare.

In the months I had been searching I had only come across one other and it ended up going for $120! This one was the watch only, no band and somehow slipped through the cracks and I got it for 15 bucks. Got a band and it looks pretty nice! I know there is the even more rare "Snehmue" branded version, but I hear those have gone for 500+ (the one offered on the kickstarter needed a 5,000 pledge)

That's awesome Jared! What exactly is the model name. Everyone once in a while I pop that watch into Ebay and see if I can find one.

The model number is: timex t43371

Good luck ever having anyone list it as such though, it doesnt say that anywhere on the watch. I had an ebay followed search for Timex Expedition that would show the most recent listings on my front page of ebay. I checked daily and it finally paid off.

Groovypants, I didn't know there was a "Shenmue watch." I think I'd rather have an AfterBurner watch, though.

I want that jacket so bad, is it only available through the super funding?

Damn if Shenmue 3 can happen, I'd love a surprising Lunar 3 announcement!
