The whole reason I was never able to get into FMP was that the highschool comedy aspect felt way too over-the-top compared to the more serious parts of the story. I can handle one mode or the other, but switching between the two like that killed my suspension of disbelief. It sucks, 'cause I really wanted to like that one.
You gotta admit though man, when a series has a 16 year old girl running a secret army and some undercover agent going into high school... should you take the show THAT seriously? :P

But that said, yeah. The way you said that made me think of how much I loath Elven Lied. One side of its face is this gory thriller, the other is some stupid cutesy love triangle with kids. I absolutely hated the contrast.
That and the "drama" is so ridiculous and over-the-top it makes it impossible to take seriously. "I BECAME A GENOCIDAL DICK BECAUSE SOME KIDS BEAT MY PUPPY TO DEATH WITH A ROCK!"

Elfin Lied was the best comedy.

You joke, but I'm guessing you've never seen SaiKano.

So apparently there's an Anime based on the Count of Monte Cristo? I randomly stumbled upon the first episode and I didn't like it at all. It had some weird -- pseudo renaissance/space setting and The Count was a vampire? Ugh, gimme a break. The way they textured people was annoying too. I didn't even finish the first episode. Anyone watch this before? Is it actually good?

I need to find a new anime to watch.

I won a DVD for Cowboy Bebop.

I'll finally get around to watching this series which everyone seems to say is an anime essential.

Actually yes, it's damn good. I don't know why the visuals would turn anyone off, gave it a lot of unique charm.

Redline is simply awesome. I wanted the fillers to end to focus on the race itself which is stellarly animated.

Hm, okay. I mean they weren't bad - it just had this weird thing were they put a pattern in for peoples clothing that moved when they walked or something. I didn't really give it a fair chance to be honest so maybe I'll come back to it at some point.

Chowder also uses the same technique, it's really cool IMO. As for Monetcristo, I hated it too, you don't fuck with the classics  .

I think Gankutsuou is mostly well done. Could do without the mecha battles that suddenly appear closer to the end. It's funny how good it looks compared to more recent GONZO series considering it is 7 years old. Definitely aging well, IMO.

It's in french but he was inspired by Paprika. I'm quite shocked actually, I can assure you that James Cameron would never admit that Avatar draws some heavy influences from Pocahontas  .
That article just says that he said it was an inspiration without any actual quote or proof. There are one or two other articles on the net that say the exact same time yet also have absolutely no proof, which makes it BS

but I know where he really got the idea
