Well, after posting about the Mega Man series and getting some encouragement about the first one, I went back to it and played my little heart out. I was surprised, however, to learn that you do get continues in it. For some reason I remember the Game Over screen without the option of continues. Weird. It was a lot of fun though!
Metal Storm is awesome. If you've never heard of it, or never played it, you really should. It's a product of a great mechanic meets creativity (
MORE creativity). I did find, though, that the gravity switch would happen when I didn't want it to, which I admit comes from my habit to hold Up on the D-Pad when I jump, but it still killed me more than a couple times. Definitely worth your time to track down if you are an NES collector!
Joe & Mac... there's not too much to say about it. It's a pretty fun concept and it's a good game.
Ristar, now here is a game that I hear a lot about, at it was even featured in RacketBoy's Hidden Gems for the Genesis (
http://www.racketboy.com/retro/2007/01/ ... -sega.html). In fact, that's why I bought it when I saw it at my local retro shop. The game itself is colorful, very creative and challenging enough to make you want to try again to do better. Even after I saw the credits roll I wanted to go back to find more of the treasures. This is a great game is you're into the Genesis.
