So if I were to leave kansas...
Re: So if I were to leave kansas...
In all seriousness, you should give a two week's notice. That will look better than just quitting, you'll be able to get a little more money, and it'll give you time to get your plans into order.

I've never actually done that. I just dont have that kind of pride and willpower. Also, I like to make a scene and leave in one day when it calls for it. Pull a Jim Breuer on them.

never quit a job before you've had ample time to steal stuff.
and most places that are smart don't let you finish out the full 2 weeks of notice, because they don't want you to steal. So steal in the next few days, then give a notice! YAY!!! Kleptomania!

I grew up in Minneapolis. I'm convinced it is one of the coolest cities in the world. I've not been to Seattle or Portland but I understand Minneapolis reminds people of those. It's very bohemian, with a lot of geek culture. The economy is also great.
Moving from Minneapolis to Baltimore really disproved my notion that people on the coasts are more sophisticated than those in the Midwest.

We've got Amazon, Microsoft, NoA, Wizards of the Coast, Valve, and a Google division all out here (among others), which leads to a high concentration of geekdom. Not to mention PAX is held here. However, it is an expensive place to live (especially in the city itself) and many of the best jobs require college degrees.
Seattle would be an awesome place for a geek. I hope to live there myself someday. But isn't it also the most college educated large city in the United States? I thought I heard that something like 50 percent of the adults there hold at least a Bachelor's degree.
My vote goes to moving in with Chrono.
nope. research triangle in NC. Seattle is really overpriced. I would live there, and almost took a job there, but the long commutes and expensive houses kept me away.

Portland also has a high unemployment rate and the highest suicide rate in the country.

I really hate Texas, but Austin is alright with me. Just stay away from 6th Street and be prepared to see a lot of bums.
Austin is the closest thing to San Francisco that I've seen outside of, well, San Francisco. Lots of young single people, high paying jobs, expensive housing, lots to do outdoors... But just like San Francisco, if you're not making 100k a year, Austin sucks.

I'm not in the U.S. but I would seriously consider keeping the job until you have something else concrete in sight.
It's hard to keep yourself sheltered and fed without money... Surely there must be something you can do with what's left of your monthly pay (after paying bills and food) that will help endure it?
I mean obviously you like to play games. Can't you join some sort of sports club (e.g. rowing, don't know something like that), or are you totally not interested in that sort of stuff? There are loads of very different sports to choose from so you must like something (like throwing darts, bow and arrow etc.)

Trying to inject some humor into the thread - maybe thejamessea is an undertaker, so Portland would be a particularly good city for him then
