It's official: Kid Icarus is our next game for the club.
Don't start playing just yet, but reserve your copy of the game now...

Good choice. I haven't played this one since grade school. If I remember correctly, this is not an easy game.

Awesome! Great choice. I've been dying to play this again. Never finished it back in the day. Couldn't get past one part because I kept getting turned into an eggplant!!

About a year and a half ago I attempted to round up my old NES games from my little sister and this one was missing from the collection. Sold or stolen, details are sketchy. I was pissed! I vividly remember riding my bike 2.5 miles to the local Big Wheel to buy a copy when it came out. Oh well.

I only recently bought a DC and one of the first things I did was put together a disc of NES roms + Nester with the express purpose of playing Kid Icarus. I only played through the first level but it seemed like a very accurate emulation. Short of buying the NES cart, do you think that's the best alternative?

I've never actually played this more than 10 seconds. I believe it uses a password system like Metroid, right? Will we be allowed to just use save states to bypass that hassle?

Haha... I will have a crybaby story when the discussion is opened. Seems like a good choice though, looking forward to it.

I would guess save states replacing passwords would not change much about the game experience. I will do that myself no doubt.

I'll be using savestates to save my progress between sessions, but I will try not to use them as a crutch throughout the game. I would recommend everyone else do the same.

Kid Icarus - manual request

Post by Ivo »

This seems like it will be a good choice, Defender I think turned out to be an excellent first choice.

Are you just deciding these by yourself, Racket? I'm curious about the method to the decisions so far. Suggestion? Inspiration? Perspiration? :)

On another note, I think it's a good idea we start a new thread for each "upcoming" title. Perhaps people disagree with me, I'm suggesting this because after a while of Defender being decided, I stopped checking this thread, and I didn't know Kid Icarus was officially the next choice until recently! As preparation, perhaps we could have a suggested NES emulator (I think lately I've been used FCE Ultra)?

Finally, on the wiki article for Kid Icarus (I jumped the plot synopsis, so please don't spoil it - not that I expect much plot ;) ) I read about the Metroid enemy and its mention on the manual, and remembered that it would be cool to have the manual for people to look at meanwhile. The wiki article has a link, but that particular source for the scan gave me an error. Can someone locate it, perhaps Racket could host it for the club?

Marurun, Fastbilly1 and I have been having private conversations about which games to do and putting together the posts. If you want to join in and help out, just let me know.

Well, there are lots of great NES emulators, but I kinda like Nestopia. It's just easy to pick up and run with.

I agree about making new threads. We should archive past discussions but allow people to keep posting if they want, but by moving them down the page permanently we can keep current discussions up front and center stage.
