I remember Dead or Alive 3 being the game people used to show off what the XBox was capable of for quite a while after it came out. The XBox magazines over here featured the game extensively too.

Dead or alive was a huge factor in the console wars of that era. I remember dead or alive 2 being THE comparison between dreamcast and PlayStation 2. It was the frontrunner to show which system was graphically better. When 3 came out on Xbox people noticed. The series is not huge now but it was back then.alienjesus wrote:I remember Dead or Alive 3 being the game people used to show off what the XBox was capable of for quite a while after it came out. It's so cool to hear about what meta-comparisons between consoles were happening back then. This weird time in my life where I was alive but not really able to grasp such concepts. It's kinda weird to think that Dead or Alive was ever super popular though, tbh

God, you're young.
Anyway, yes, Dead or Alive was a big deal at the time, and 3 ending up on the Xbox was debated as some sort of power play for the ages.
Overall, it looks to me like Michi's list is solid. I agree with it and have nothing to change.

Ok cool. Sounds like we're getting locked down pretty good.
Anybody want to write first draft summaries for any of the following?
Halo
Splinter Cell
Dead or Alive Series
Fable
Knights of the Old Republic
Jade Empire
Ninja Gaiden
Jet Set Radio Future - I can take this one)
Project Gotham Series
Forza Motorsport
Oddworld
Steel Battalion (I think should be included just because it really was talked about a lot when it came out and offered something new that era)
Conker: Live & Reloaded (mentioning the censorship is actually a worthy thing to bring into the conversation)

Gunvalkyrie should probably be included as a defining game. It seems like everybody who owned an Xbox either owned or at least played it.
If we're including games which were hyped (and perhaps failed to live up to that hype) then Blinx and Brute Force deserve mentions.

It is a good list though I think there should be more exclusives vs multi-system games as defining the Xbox.Ack wrote:Overall, it looks to me like Michi's list is solid. I agree with it and have nothing to change.
The exclusive Blinx series certainly hidden gems, but also to me connected as a definer to the Xbox. Crimson Skies as well.

Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge must go on the list. It was a big deal back then, received stellar reviews and plenty of sales. That version of Crimson Skies was also an exclusive to Xbox and considerably different then the PC version.

True -- I could see that. If somebody wants to do a writeup for that one, go for itExhuminator wrote:Crimson Skies: High Road to Revenge must go on the list.
