I don't consider Otogi and RPG either and that is what i meant by putting that "not counting" there. I did it because someone might consider it an action RPG because of the RPG elements.

But yeah. It pretty much a hack and slash with RPG elements.

Well some of them are. I haven't played the first game much but i'm under the impression that the series didn't start to take shape until the second one. The third one (first 3DS one) i haven't bought yet because of the backslash it got. It might have the charm but it's supposedly really boring to play.

The second 3DS game is still a backstep from light&darkness on the gameplay department in some regards but it's worth playing for the dialogue.

Well that's me. I tend to easily notice and get annoyed by things that i consider bad design so you really don't see me often praising anything :D

I kinda have love&hate relationship with JRPG's especially. Good chunk of them i hate but i keep playing them because now and then you get that gem that makes it all worth it and even some of my favorites that i might have actually loathed to play have things on them that still make me fondly look back at them.

Sometimes it's also worth to play JRPG's just for the OST's. I might have not really enjoyed TWEWY expect combat wise but i got some great tracks out of it so that's alone made it worth my time.

The story isn't deep of course but characters have tons of personality and charm to them. I like this game more than the main titles.

That's because they're not Pokémon games proper but Fushigi no Dungeon games developed by Chunsoft, starring Pokémon characters. Solid series. I don't like mainline Pokémon games myself.

I haven't played them for quite a while (like, since they came out), but yeah! Those games are great! I've been meaning to pick up the 3DS one (and I guess there's a 3rd one on DS that I also don't have, I think) once it gets a little cheaper. The 2nd one had a really good story, and much better encounter design and story than the first Pokemon Mystery Dungeon.

So I'm thinking of giving Explorers of Darkness a try? Is that one of the better ones?

Explorers of Sky is enchanced version of it so it's probably better to start with it.

But you can't go wrong with Darkness either. It's the best Pokemon Mystery Dugeon "gen" either way.
