Re: Games NOT Beaten: 2016
Fallout 3
Once again, I think this is time #4? Made it about 5-6 hours in, but one day I closed the game and a couple of weeks later I have no urge to re-open it. No single aspect of the game is cool enough to sink its hooks into me. The music is bland and sounds like Oblivion outtakes, the characters aren't memorable except for Moira, the color palette is probably the worst in the series (everything is bathed in green), the east coast is a boring setting, the world doesn't have that same ruthless, depressing edge that New Vegas did, and there's not a whole lot to do if you don't want to pursue the main quest. That's something New Vegas did great: you could just fool around a village, and you'd run into 4 quests for the local area. In FO3, there's a lot less of that going on.

With New Vegas and 4 out, you're not missing out by skipping 3 thesedays. The main quest is fine, but seriously yeah... just isn't much point to playing it unless you just can't get enough of these games. I'd much rather do a new character on New Vegas, which I have done a few times.

I'm going to be the minority voice of dissent here and say that Fallout 3 is worth playing and, in my opinion, more enjoyable than New Vegas. New Vegas is definitely a technically more refined game, and Fallout 4 is, naturally, just better in every regard, but the lore that Fallout 3 built and the setting (post-apocalyptic DC really gave it a dark feel for me) make it every bit worth playing even if it's technically inferior to NV and 4.Xeogred wrote:With New Vegas and 4 out, you're not missing out by skipping 3 thesedays. I'm definitely not saying "Suck it up, bitch. Go play Fallout 3," but I definitely think it's unfair to say that 3 is worth skipping or that you're not missing anything. Just my two cents on it, but, admittedly, I'm a HUGE Fallout fanboy.

Fallout 3 is a good 30 hour game. The DLC's are somewhat good here and there. But with the lack of factions and more organically dynamic things going on in the world, and the overworld itself being pretty boring to me (the skeletal ruins of the big buildings was cool though, NV didn't have that), I just don't see any reason why I'd ever play it again.
I also really hate how Bethesda handles the Brotherhood. They successfully made me flat out hate them in 4, and the power of the unholy American democracy was too much to swallow in 3 as well.

I will agree that 3's DLC was underwhelming. Broken Steel was AMAZING, and Point Lookout was alright, but other than those (and really only Broken Steel IMO), they're just meh. New Vegas definitely had the better DLC.

KH1FM - Stuck on ansem.....I'll have to grind and find better equipment i'm not sure I'm wearing the right stuff in this part of the game so yeah his second stage after beating the beast you saw at the end of destiny islands the first time is a pain. I want to beat it but ugh I hate this section of the game...

Corpse Party: Book of Shadows
I remember someone playing this before and saying the writing was bad (I know who it was but the name escapes me atm gah), and so I was curious since I hadn't tried it yet.
It is bad. I liked the opening movie bit, but it didn't take long at all for me to lose interest after that. I guess I shouldn't be surprised since I didn't really like the first game's writing either, but I guess I expected a little more since it's pretty much a straight up VN instead of a survival horror with VN bits.
So yeah, now I feel pretty silly buying all of the Corpse Party games without trying any of them first

Re: Games NOT Beaten: 2016
In my new-found enjoyment of shmups, I've been going through some of the classics. 1942 was not... 30+ levels, really repetitive. Called it quits less than halfway through, because I felt like I had seen all there is to see. Except for more land backgrounds towards the end, a longplay pretty much confirmed this. I know it's old and all, but Gradius was released only a year later, and that game is still awesome. I did give 1943 a try, just to see the difference, and it was pretty fun. Looking forward to a full play of that one somewhere down the line.
I review (mostly old) games at: The Annals of Retrodom.

Book of Shadows is bad. The original is great, and Blood Drive is great, but Book of Shadows is garbage for the first 90% of the game. The only redeeming part is the very last chapter which, admittedly, is REALLY interesting and sets the stage for Blood Drive. Don't feel silly for buying them all, though, because Blood Drive is worth playing. Just watch a YouTube playthrough of the end of Book of Shadows and play Blood Drive.laurenhiya21 wrote:Corpse Party: Book of Shadows
