Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night ("new Castlevania")
Re: Bloodstained: Ritual Of The Night ("new Castlevania")
That's exactly it, Gunstar. It's not a pre-order, it's an investment, and one that involves some element of risk. For some, it's totally worth it, for some it's not. I think I can understand why Tanooki might not like it, though. But a lot of the Kickstarter craze where people are just throwing money at anything that sounds interesting is probably over now.

I have the utmost respect for the man running this Kickstarter, but I've personally been burned too many times on Kickstarted projects that never came to fruition. I have a personal policy of avoiding doing so on principle now.Sarge wrote:I'm debating whether I want to jump in on the madness or not.
That said, when this game does reach fruition, provided it is sold on a digital service I actually use (as in glorious GOG instead of the DRM suckstorm Steam) than I'll buy it pronto. Doubly so if it came out in a physical form.
The local co-op possibility is the most appealing aspect to me.
I reckon as a side effect of the landslide victory this Kickstarter has already garnished and will further garnish, this will influence more developers to start producing their own "metroidvanias" I'll betcha.

Ironically, I've only Kickstarted two things. Neither of which were games.
(For the record, they were the OCRemix FFVI album and another year of Retro magazine.)

I'm still waiting on Ghost Song. We initial backers were supposed to have it a year ago. Oh well. If it ever gets released you'll see my name in the credits at least.

He's right, it's not a preorder, I never even considered that. It's an investment. I don't gamble, and investing is gambling. My investing begins and ends at my 401K as I don't have a dime free to 'invest' so I see no value in being a lender on a soft commitment with a given outline in the hopes of a year or two later to have my loan followed through on with product. And panhandling I'd argue you do get something, may not be tangible, but you could get that warm and fuzzy feeling helping someone buy a meal they can't afford.Sarge wrote:That's exactly it, Gunstar. I've seen enough people like exhuminator there on multiple messageboards and facebook over the last few years complain their investment went up in smoke due to a project failing or changing the product/ideas in it after the fact. As an investment I'd see that as someone asking me for X dollars on Y idea, and then after the fact without consulting me making different product Z and your X dollars are gone and not for what you want ending you asking Y? Also along his other line of thought, GoG please, steam-drm isn't nice and shouldn't be required for an offline experience.

I don't think those are terrible complaints. One just has to recognize the risks. If you're okay with them, go for it. If not, don't. I'm glad it exists, but as you can see, I'm pretty careful with what I back. I knew both OCRemix and Retro would come through. I didn't invest in Mighty No. 9 because I've been a bit skeptical of how it's going to turn out. I'm sure I'll find one eventually, but I'm usually content to wait for the product to release. Heck, I don't even pre-order a whole lot of games, unless it's in franchises that I know I'll like (i.e. Zelda or Dragon Quest).
Completely understand where you're coming from, and if KS isn't for you, there's nothing wrong with that! I love that it exists, though, because we got awesome stuff like Shovel Knight, Pillars of Eternity, Valdis Story, Wasteland 2, and others. I think, at its most mature, it's going to be a place where established devs who have been overlooked are going to be able to take their wares, given their more niche nature.

Which is a shame, I love the graphical style. Very dark and moody with almost a Genesis feel. Hopefully it will materialize.Exhuminator wrote:I'm still waiting on Ghost Song. I've backed 47 projects. 18 of those have delivered (though I'm still waiting on the physical rewards from Planetary Annihilation). 2 seem to have died out entirely, and the rest are in active development. Most of the small ones have missed their target date but I attribute that to poor estimation. All of the active ones have been pretty good about maintaining regular communication so I feel good that things are progressing despite delays.-

I came. 60 minimum back, will likely increase it.
Regarding ks, I've only had one project fail to deliver. They typically are late, sometimes significantly so, but almost every one does eventually deliver. This is probably the one I'm most excited about though. Because Vania

So it's at $1,323,563 right now with 31 days to go. I hope this thing breaks $5,000,000 so Konami can piss themselves in despair.

This is what you get for letting your shareholders steer the boat, dipshits.
