What was the first game you remember playing?

I have no idea what the actual first game I played was, but the first one that made an impression on me was Adventure for Atari 2600. That dragon that could follow you around scared the bejesus out of me.

Well think about it. When we were young, these things were brand spanking new. The idea of manipulating your TV at the push of a button blew everyone's mind. Back in the day, you could play around with a game and push it to its limits, do things beyond what you were supposed to do and just play with the game. It was a glorious time! I think now those are called glitches though not as interesting as that...now I'm wondering if the atari plug in I have or the one my dad had bought has that game on it, I kinda want to try that now. Though it also seems like back then you also heard of developers really pushing the envelope on what a game is or was(at least that's what I gather from all the conversations heck even some of my games still seem 10x more interesting than some of the modern games just for what some of these developers attempted in that time)

Yeah, but modern glitches tend to steer towards just graphical glitches. Textures not loading, people falling through floors etc.

Mega Man 4 on NES, I used to always watch my brother play it when I was like 3-4 years old and one day I summoned the courage to play it all by myself (I'm a big boy!!)

I also remember being on vacation in Greece and seeing a promotional poster for DKC on the SNES, as this was the summer time, I asked my mom nicely to buy it for me for my birthday (which is in September). Once my bday came around, so did DKC!

It was either the original Street Fighter (I remember Retsu's stage, that's about it) or Pac-Man (I remember playing at a cocktail cab and I was amazed to see a game on a table) in a Wal-Mart and Pizza Hut respectively. Can't remember which one exactly, but I do know I played them before getting my first game, Kung Fu for the NES.

Oddly I didn't actually own an NES, I just borrowed one and got the game at a flea market. First game and system I got was an SNES with Super Mario World. My parents didn't want me to have a game system, but I ended up winning that through a school raffle.

Super Mario Bros, on the Nintendo Entertainment System. The NES was the first console I owned and the first I remember playing, though it was just a start. I also got a Game Boy a little while later, and Batman: Return of the Joker was my first game for that. A couple of years later, we ended up getting a computer with an Internet connection, and that was when I began playing games like Doom, Ken's Labyrinth, and ZZT. And then there were friends and neighbors, who let me play games like E.T. on their Atari 2600 or 1980s text adventures.

In fact, there is a text adventure game that was either for the Apple II or Macintosh 128k computer that I can barely remember playing over at a neighbor's house and that I wish I knew more about. All I remember is finding a box hidden under the leaves along a trail. I think it was fantasy, but I am not sure. I must have been 7 years old or so, and as I don't recall anything more, I expect I will never find out what it was that I got to play.

When I was 8 years old I finally convinced my mom to buy me an Atari 2600 for my birthday. Oh chortle, oh joy! But guess what the single solitary game I got with the system was?

Yep, ET.

The next year though she got me a Master System so all was forgiven.

Are you sure you aren't thinking of the original Zork? It wasn't a box hidden under a pile of leaves on a trail, but a grating that leads to a room.
