I would say the NES library is hell of a lot more varied and quite a lot less "simple", even though there's Game Boy games that aren't as well.

If you compare the Game Boy versions of stuff like Castlevania and Mega Man to the NES ones, well it's obvious which ones are preferable.

I think there are certainly examples of more complex Game Boy games as well as specific games that are superior to their NES versions but those are exceptions to the norm. For the most part you have quick and simple games with many the best titles the Game Boy has to offer being well known and pretty plentiful.

That changes once you hit the GBA of course, which was basically the second coming of the SNES.

All that said there's some buried treasure on the Game Boy that deserves to be discussed more often.

I love the Gameboy, especially due to being able to play it on TV various ways. Love the Game Gear too, will really need to look into getting one of those Master Gears, I'd actually be willing to pay that much... eventually. When I get more money.

My local retro gaming store has a ton of Gameboy and Game Gear games in a 2 for $4 bin and tons of GBA games ina 2 for $5 bin. I always dig through and see what I can find when I happen to be there.

Really, really, really want Shantae for GBC. Really bad. I don't wanna get a DSi or whatever just to play that game, especially since I want to be able to play it on a TV screen. That is easily one of the most expensive games on my want list.

Game Boy is my favorite system of all time. I've owned or played just about every console too. Sometimes I get hooked on a classic game and my PS3/PS4/Vita/iPad gets put on hold for a week until I beat it. The original black & white though. I'm not so big on the color and advance. I actually owned a large portion of AAA titles from the GBA gen and ended up selling them over the years to fund my other gaming wants.

I'm less then 10 titles shy of the entire North American release set. I will spend a good portion of my visit to Midwest Gaming Classic this Saturday hunting down orphaned boxes/manuals for my collection. Oh and also hunting down hilarious imported fakes. I have a collection of multis and fakes going strong too. Some of those are like art. Harry Potter with flying broomstick enemies. Sprite hacks of Mario Land 2 with fat Pikachu. That's just to name a few.

I would like to play them on a HDTV. HDMIBoy is too costly. Retron5 is a bit costly too. I settled on picking up a few of those Kong Feng GB Boy systems to use besides my two AGS-101 SP units. Then I discovered the magic of the Raspberry Pi 2. I'm in the process of making a emulation paradise with that so I can leave my games on the shelf. I'm a bit of a perfectionist though. I want to put all the games, cover art, info, etc on the unit before I start using it though.

If any of you are looking for import Game Boy titles, even some that are not language specific, check out Japan Retro Direct. He sells lots of cheap Game Boy titles. I've started buying from him as I start to dabble into imports.

Yeah, I'm kicking myself for not buying that years ago, mainly because of the laughable review in Game Informer that gave it a 3/10. Ugh. Yeah, it's not perfect, but it's still a good game.

I don't think it's available on DSi, I think it's a 3DS that you'll have to have.

As far as the Game Boy itself goes, I have a soft spot for it. I think part of it stems from how limited the system is. There was so little to work with there, that good games on the system are truly GOOD games. Aesthetic pizzazz wasn't really an option so the good games have to shine in gameplay and gameplay alone. As someone who always values good game design over good graphics, this is a huge appeal to me. There's also a nostalgia factor going on that I won't lie exists. I mean, I had one of these in 1989. It was the only thing that kept me sane while I was stuck in a body cast.

I went ahead and got a DMG modded with a white backlight and biverted screen (with a new cool blue translucent shell and matching LED light).

Daaaamn this thing is nice. I took some photos but it was hard to capture with the backlight. They don't really do it justice. The contrast is so good in person and the motion blur is cut down to GB Pocket levels or maybe even better.

They also threw in a free copy of Tennis which was nice because I didn't have one.

Sure it's not as crisp and perfect as the AGS-101 but there's something really satisfying about playing the modded brick. I'm super happy with it.

They already stole the Android emulators. Might as well use them.
