Does your state require a photo ID to vote? Don't vote!
Re: Does your state require a photo ID to vote? Don't vote!
Hrmm, funny topic because it's not like you don't already have a photo id anyways for other things. You need one to: drink, drive, buy weed(legally anyways), buy cigarettes(if you don't look the age anyways usually), and probably quite a few other things. I've never understood why people throw such a big fit over needing a ID to vote since by the time you start voting you need a ID anyways to drive at least....

not everyone drives, especially in cities where it isn't necessary.darsparx wrote:Hrmm, funny topic because it's not like you don't already have a photo id anyways for other things. Ack's post is the best in this thread so far, and everyone should read it if they don't want to read prfsnl_gmr's lengthier pdf:
Ack wrote: The cost of acquiring an ID is the biggest issue involved in Voter ID laws, particularly considering the people who would be more likely to be kept from voting typically lean towards a single party, the Democrats, and are often minorities(hence the complaints of racism regarding Voter ID). The type of voter fraud this law prevents is generally rare when compared to other methods of electoral fraud. And while I advocate finding ways to deter any and all voter fraud, Voter ID comes with the possibility of disenfranchising more people than it will stop from committing such fraud.

If you are a law abiding citizen the benefits of an ID, regardless if you drive or not, far outweigh the minimal or in some cases, zero cost of an ID.
Draw your own conclusions.
The arguments for not having an ID are beyond silly. You need them for all kinds of inconveniences; like financial accounts (savings, banking, checking, CD, loans), employment (employers must file an I-9 - yes it is possible to use a series of other papers in lieu of ID, but it is much more time consuming to get and maintain those papers than it is to get an ID), purchasing tobacco, alcohol, firearms, video games, dvd's, cashing checks out of state. Those who don't want an ID can whine inconvenience or some other wrong-doing on some level, but just as the conservatives only require it to sway the vote, then one can say the liberals only argue against this dreaded inconvenience for the same reasons.
I gather ultra-conservative freeman, criminals, and illegal aliens are really the only people who don't want / need ID for obvious reasons. The rest is shine thrown on a non-starter by people who want to express their deep intellect and how thoughtful they've truly been about such a divisive issue. Please. Can't believe i've wasted 3 minutes on this now. Late.

Honestly better response and more drawn out than minemjmjr25 wrote:If you are a law abiding citizen the benefits of an ID, regardless if you drive or not, far outweigh the minimal or in some cases, zero cost of an ID.

It isn't as easy or necessary as you suggest...

Hmmm you don't have to show ID to buy a gun? All the guns I bought I was required to show ID and fill out paperwork. Had to have a full background check to buy my 9mm pistol. Maybe it is just a Wisconsin thing? But then wouldn't federal law supercede?

Re: Does your state require a photo ID to vote? Don't vote!
Again, the opinion posted covers this. Here's Wisconsin law for gun shows, private sellers, auctions, etc:ninjainspandex wrote:Hmmm you don't have to show ID to buy a gun? Well what the hell why did I need a background check? I bought it at a gunshow. Maybe I looked shifty
Man look at all those liberal states disenfranchising poor and minorities without IDs from exercising their 2nd amendment rights
EDIT: I see now why I needed a background check, I bought from a licensed gun dealer.
