Because the wolf was Link. Maybe they can do a Cinderella Boy thing where Link and Zelda fuse and are Link during the day and Zelda at night.
Or they can just go full Ladyhawke and have you alternate controlling either with the other transformed into an animal companion.

Read OP. He has said a lot of other things before about this game before, like he wants it to be a Zelda game where it doesn't matter if you are Link or not. Just a fun thread on the theories. Either way he stated it's Link now.... well kinda... "you can't have a Zelda Trailer without Link" and "I didn't mean my comment like that, just a joke". Wish he would just flatout say "That is Link in the trailer".
I was kinda hoping it would be a game where either you switch back and forth between Zelda and Link, alternate female Link and Link or zelda/link fusion. Zelda game often have some kinda alternate world stuff going on. I am sure this one will too in some way.

Well the game is just supposed to be a huge return back to the roots of zelda(with massive exploration again like they tried to emulate with the screens set up the way they were in 1) which looks like they're slowly but surely doing it and I'm going to be impressed when it finally comes out(and buy it day 1 knowing me) ^_^
