Re: Winamp, dead at 16
What does foobar have over winamp? I went to the main page, but didn't get excited.
What's all the fuss about
That and winamp will be used for many years to come regardless which version.

Foobar is one of the programs of choice for audiophiles. Supports outputting > 16-bit 44Khz audio.
Not sure what Winamp is capable of outputting. I know that iTunes does not. Or at least didn't last I checked. It may play 24-bit 192Khz files, but it only outputs them in lower quality. Not that it matters that much. Most people can't tell the different and/or don't have the equipment to be able to tell the difference. But you know, it's something.
Other than that, I don't know. I prefer iTunes. The album view in the new iTunes is nice. And I had always set up Foobar to look similar to the list view in iTunes anyway. Foobar is certainly lighter, but I've had no issues loading up iTunes on my new PC. Maybe it takes 1/8 second and Foobar would take 1/16. Whatever.

foobar's also lightweight, extremely flexible, and has like a bazillion features.

Well, Microsoft has the dollars to do it, but why?
Let's add Winamp + Windows Media Player = 1 ultra-bloated piece of software.
What could possibly go wrong?

As the linked article points out, they likely could not care less about Winamp, but it'd be a package deal with Shoutcast, and that'd be the bigger thing.samsonlonghair wrote:Well, Microsoft has the dollars to do it, but why?
Re: Winamp, dead at 16
I used to use Winamp, but in all honesty I haven't used in years, probably because at some point I found VLC and even by then Winamp was just a memory.
Re: Winamp, dead at 16
Looks like WinAmp isn't dead just yet.
