I'll still be playing the heck out of this one, but when I'm ready to move on... any suggestions on what my next title should be?

If you prefer an older style shmup like TFIII then Gradius II might be a logical next step. Slightly more difficult (opinions may vary). If you prefer old-school but want to get a bit more involved with scoring mechanics, but still not over the top difficult you might enjoy Space Megaforce on SNES or M.U.S.H.A on GENESIS.

I know TF3 is one of the baby shmups in terms of difficulty and am aware that this isn't impressive or anything, but I got my first 1CC a few days back and have been gradually trying to improve my score.

I'm impressed, anyway. I find TFIII to be stupidly difficult, personally.

Gyruss (from Konami Arcade Advanced - GBA played on GC)

The game does end when you reach Earth, then it loops back again.

There are 22 stages, Stage 23 here is the post-Earth chance (bonus) stage.

I was already on my last life, so I didn't last long in the 2nd loop. The previous score was my attempt on Stage 22 but it wasn't cleared.

This gives me hope for beating the real thing one of these days.

Nice one Exed There is something extra special about getting into the loop in a shmup. The game rewards you're familiarity with it by killing you with what was previously the easiest part of the game. So good!

Grats! This was my very first 1cc as well. Its all downhill from here

Finally.

Deathsmiles is taken down.

Really it was just a matter of focusing on the clear and not score and it only took 2 runs this evening. Ended up w/2 full health left and 64+ mil. Score isn't great for a clear, but i'm pleased w/it for now.

Played on 360/Arcade mode, so haven't snapped a pic yet, but I saved the run to the HDD, so I can snap a pic or two later on...

I disagree. I think TFIII is not only a very enjoyable shmup but also quite challenging in some sections too. The underwater section always costs me a life or lives. Yes I've 1cc-ed it, but I don't always assume when I play it that I'll beat it. Just LOVE that game. Try Thunderforce AC on Saturn for a slightly harder version of the game too - if you're ready for it!
